Tim McCarver Hates Social Networking: FOX Announcer Rants During MLB Broadcast (VIDEO)

First Posted: 04/ 8/2012 4:00 pm Updated: 04/ 8/2012 4:00 pm

By Matt Yoder, Awful Announcing

Perhaps Tim McCarver has Twitter searched his name on a Saturday afternoon one too many times. Maybe he was defriended on Facebook by one too many people. Perhaps his Google+ circles are feeling a little empty or he's seen himself autotuned on Youtube. Or, he could be confused and just really hate the movie The Social Network. For whatever reason, Tim McCarver opened the 2012 MLB season on Saturday by stating his belief that social networking is the worst thing ever...

"There is nothing in my view that is more disturbing than social networking. Nothing!" - Tim McCarver

There may be just a few things on my list more disturbing than social networking. War, AIDS, world hunger, Two And A Half Men, the fake-to-third-fake-to-first pickoff attempt that never works, never being able to get the last ice cube stuck at the bottom of the glass, and announcers saying six letter words have only five letters just to name a few.

Nevertheless, now that we have our first McCarverism of the new year, we can officially welcome the 2012 MLB season.

*This video was found via social networking. Thanks to Whitney Snider for recording this quote for posterity.

There is nothing more disturbing than having Tim McCarver and Joe Buck announcing baseball.

I don't mind Buck but McCarver is just mind-numbing. I'm not a Red Sox fan, but I was ecstatic when he took McCarver's place for a few games in last year's playoffs.

Listening to McCarver opine during a game is disturbing.

Has McCarver had anything relevant to say since Stone hedge?
Why does baseball keep saddling us with announcers that no one likes.

McCarver is a bore. His ridiculous dependence on unimportant statistical data has for years made him redundant. "This is the first time in Major League History that a blue eyed second baseman born in February has ever been hit by a change-up pitch from a lefthander from Skokie during the second game of the season."

What's worse is when he starts crying about things that aren't issues, as if he never played the game.

Progressive is good; regressive, not so much.

There are really good 'young' broadcasters out there - why are mccarver and buck still there?

It's a Fox thing. They like to ruin good games with bad broadcasters.

Mc Carver, the man who never shuts up, paired with the nonentity son of somebody, whats his name Buck, ensures no one watches Fox baseball with the sound on.

But I do think he's right about social media being hugely overrated in importance. Oh yeah, that dancing squirrel video went viral. So what? A shared moronic thought is still a moronic thought.

McCarver and Buck make listening to a game (Football for Buck even more so) unbearable.

When McCarver and Buck are in the booth - I watch the game with the TV on mute. They can NOT stay on the topic of the game and they both talk incessantly - using 20 words when 8 would suffice.

For me the most disturbing thing is that after 17 years, the geniuses at Fox sports can't find anybody better than McCarver to be their primary color analyst.

My all-time favorite moment was a Sox-Yankees game a few years ago. With Jeter on first, Tim says "There's absolutely now way Jeter steals in this situation!" On the next pitch, Jeter takes off for second.

When I saw the headline "The Most Disturbing Thing in the World" under McCarver's pic, I naturally assumed that the article connected to the headline would be ABOUT McCarver, not his dislike of social networking.

Quell disappointed.

For yet another year a beautiful, sometimes poetic, sport will be ruined by the grating prattle of "The Mouth of the South." Perhaps there's a rant coming about how LaTim doesn't like baseball because clearly it would take that kind of rant for Fox to finally show him the exit.

And Joe Buck, too.

There are more disturbing things... not much of a rant. He comes from a different place and time where we actually talk with each other instead of staring into a gadget. They are important mind you but people are infatuated with them....

What McCarver hates is that Social Media makes it possible for the world to communicate to him how awful, condescending and generally nerve-grating he is as a baseball announcer. Access to such a large number of negative opinions regarding his nature as a human being is what bugs him. It's harder for him to fictionalize his own greatness with so much obvious, objective disdain for him at his finger-tips.

He wants his opinion to be the only one being broadcast.

Social Media is the worst thing ever? Has he ever heard one his own broadcasts?
