This article by Mr. Hersh again confirm that MEK is lying about converting to a peaceful organization since 2003, no wonder why MEK (or whatever front name they have now) is designated as a terrorist group by State Department, where is Justice Department to enforce US laws and prosecute corrupt politicians and MEK members who are operating in USA!

We have a long history of this sort of thing. The School of the Americas at Fort Benning (now the euphemistically named "Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation") has trained all manner of right wing military and paramilitary psychopaths (colloquially referred to as "right wing death squads") who operated in Central America; and who ran amok and slaughtered thousands of innocent people. They were terrorists, plain and simple.

Anyone who tries to suggest that the U.S. doesn't sleep with terrorists is a l*ar....

after reading the new yorker article i want to slam my fingers in a drawer. if every word is true the united states hasmade a terrible mistake. unintended comsequenses landed us in afghanistan, and just maybe in iran. enemies trained and funded by americans wow it blows my mind. fortunately Obama hasnt participated in it. just before he left office bush ended the program.

This article is full of lies, it blatantly misquotes its sources and twists the truth into falsehoods. For example, the article claims that Arabs jihadis were trained in the USA by the CIA and it cites John Cooley's book "Unholy Wars" as a source of this, in fact I've read his book and he says that the CIA only trained Pakistani agents and a very few senior Afghan Mujahedin. Cooley states explicitly (on pg 71) that no Arabs were trained in the USA (or elsewhere) by the CIA. Yet the article cites Cooley's book as stating the opposite. What pure leftwing propaganda.
IN NO WAY DID THE CIA HAVE CONTACT WITH, TRAIN, FUND, ARM, OR OTHERWISE DIRECTLY SUPPORT the arab jihadists (including OBL) in the 1979-1992 afghanistan war. Any informed adult should know this. CIA support for arab jihadists would have been impossible, as congress was too worried that arabs would turn around and attack Israel.

This enemy of my enemy is my friend thing has got us in hot soup more than once. The most famous is Afghanistan's anti-Soviet mujahideen that morphed into the Taliban who harbors Al Qaeda. Our main problem isn't that we support freedom fighters, it's that we only do so for our own narrow political ends, like toppling the country's govt & then walk away. Today's Taliban is the result of our neglect of Afghanistan's development once the Soviets are gone leaving a huge vacuum. But Iran is no Soviet Union. Their govt aren't invaders but Iranians themselves. We may not like the Iranian govt's legitimacy but it's clearly up to Iranians themselves to decide. We will be backing the wrong group of "freedom fighters" if majority of Iranians view them as terrorists.

The mujahideen were not necessarily Taliban; they came from Egypt and Saudi Arabia too, and OBL, a Saudi was trained and armed by the U.S.

But it's also true that thousands of Mujahaeeden, including some of their leading commanders like Haqqani joined the TaIiban because their philosophy, core belief and "values" weren't really that different from those of the TaIiban, despite what a child here who parrots US pr0paganda of the 1980's say (that the Mujahaeeden were freedom-loving, democracy-loving, women-respecting people who would never dream of becoming religious fundamentalists. Incidentally the same person who believes that the DOD is an "unbiased source." Comical, isn't it?)
