'HIMYM': Barney Realizes What He Wants For His Future

Once again, "How I Met Your Mother" (Mon., 8 p.m. ET on CBS) used some clever framework to tell its story. This time it was built around Ted and Marshall's tradition of watching the original "Star Wars" trilogy once every three years. As such, fans were treated to trips back to 2009, 2006, 2003 and 2000. And in all of those moments, there were some consistencies.

Marshall and Ted waxed nostalgic about their futures, with Marshall trying desperately to imagine himself with a mustache and a successful job, while Ted wanted both success and love. Once Barney joined the gang, his was the picture of consistency. The same routine, only with a different girl.

But when they convened for the 2012 viewing, things had changed. Ted lost his optimism, while Marshall was finally coming close to achieving his. And Barney realized that he no longer wants a different girl every day. He wants Quinn every day. And so he rushed home to tell her, discovering that she felt the same way. Could she be the one?

As for that look ahead to 2015, it certainly laid some heavy material on long-time fans. By then, Ted will have apparently not only found Mrs. Mosby, but he'll be the father to a baby girl. That puts meeting the mother sometime within the next two years most likely.

"How I Met Your Mother" continues Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
