Iran Unplug Internet

arstechnica.com:

Iran topped a recent list of repressive regimes that most aggressively restrict Internet freedom. The list, published by Reporters Without Borders, is a part of the 2012 edition of the organization’s Enemies of the Internet report. One of the details addressed in that report is the Iranian government’s bizarre plan to create its own “clean” Internet. The proposed system, an insular nation-wide intranet that is reportedly isolated from the regular Internet, would be heavily regulated by the government.

We do know Internet was developed by MIC for secure communication purposes of US military installations, and never they have released any peace of technology to civilian market unless it has been totally contained and under full control of military in time of peace or not, most countries especially those in competition with US do control Internet in their domain in one way or another, just take a look at all these various color revolution (from Eastern Europe to Middle-East) which have been taking place because of Internet, it's in the national interest of every nation to protect herself from mass hysteria within which internet can easily achieve instead of sending spooks with bags of cash to incite locals in to topple their own governments!

We certainly wouldn't want mass hysteria in Iran. Let's keep the hysteria limited to the Iranian police forces and politicians who so hysterically shoot, rape, torture and jail their dissidents. I'm sure keeping information from Iranians and letting the government track them more easily will help somehow.

My original comment is factual without dabbling in tangents!
"hysterically shoot, rape, torture and jail their dissidents" are not exclusively belong to a certain groups of nations, on the contrary as with anti-Vietnam war few decades ago US government deployed National guards to subdue her citizens in order to save herself and nation from anarchy and excuse was; Communist infiltration!

Some countries are not ready for prime time. Cannot let info circulate unbridled. Some other countries will follow through.

Hopefully, losing the internet will bring the protestors back into the streets and hopefully Obama will give them a little moral support (at least) this time that he neglected to do last time.

The problem with the Iranian program is that like cell phone apps, a lot of the internet was, and continues to be built by the users. Since that kind of freedom is not allow in Iran, any system they create will always be small and stunted while the Internet expands ever outwards and is limitless. With a government run system the users will never have the up to the minute kind of data that those who use the internet have. Additionally the Iranians would have to deal with oppression and government information filtering. So even if this system is created, why would anyone bother to use it.

Their Right Wing is WAY far to the right. Our Right Wing is REALLY far to the right. It's just a matter of degree. If American Fundies could restrict the Internet to their way of thinking they would certainly do so.

Wow, now we're talking. Imagine a country with solely their own intranet. Could there be a better way of tracking people----another instance of "Minority Report"

Hey, this could work here very well under the "Interstate Commerce Clause". The gov wouldn't have to step so lightly in their internet probes and control points.
