Netflix Adds Hasbro Shows: 'My Little Pony,' 'Transformers Prime' And More

Netflix

It' Saturday morning! Pour some cereal into your favorite bowl and gather 'round the television to watch some...Netflix?

The online movie and television service has added "My Little Pony," "Transformers Prime," "GI Joe: Renegades," and several other children's cartoons to its streaming section, Netflix announced Tuesday morning. The toons have been added as part of a new deal with Hasbro's multimedia wing that will bring 10 of the popular toy-and-game-maker's television shows to Netflix Instant.

"My Little Pony," Tranformers Prime," Pound Puppies," "G.I. Joe: Renegades" and "The Adventures of Chuck & Friends" are available to watch on Netflix right now (sorry, everyone's boss); "JEM & The Holograms," "Transformers: Generation 1," "G.I. Joe: Real American Heroes," "Transformers: Beast Wars "and "Transformers: Rescue Bots" will start streaming later this year.

The terms of the deal, including the length of the contract, were not released.

All of these action figure shows are part of Netflix's own "transformation" (heh) into a streaming-first service, and these shows will reside in the streaming site's new "Just for Kids" section. That section launched in August 2011 and was somewhat obscured by the widespread subscriber backlash over the now-infamous price hike of July.

That furor has mercifully died down, and now Netflix is concentrating on bolstering its streaming catalogue. Recent major acquisitions include the exclusive first rights to the "The Artist," 2012's Academy Award for Best Picture, as part of a larger deal for foreign films and documentaries distributed by the Weinstein Company; and "Hemlock Grove," a new original series from horror maven Eli Roth ("Cabin Fever," "Hostel").

That announcement is part of an "experimental" push by Netflix to add its own exclusive content, which began with the premiere of mob dramedy "Lilyhammer" in February and will continue with Season 4 of "Arrested Development" and the David Fincher-Kevin Spacey collaboration "House of Cards" later on.

Those series are likely to appear on Netflix in 2013; right now, however, Netflix subscribers can enjoy Optimus Prime destroying a building, GI Joe fighting the bad guys, or Rainbow Dash and Pinky Pie...uh...being little ponies. All of those shows are now appearing in the "Just for Kids" section on Netflix's website.

Netflix sucks. Used to have it years ago. Been checking in 2 since.. most things I want to watch are DVD only. They only have crap online. I did like DVD better. I want to have something in my hand.

Ok... Just called NetFlix... Most of the titles mentioned in this article are DVD titles. In other words: The cartoons are only available though the mail. Canadians do not have the dvd service. I wish reporters would be clear and accurate when they report news. :P

I'm not seeing any of those new shows. Is there a difference between the Canadian stream and the US? That would really suck... :(

I have been really pleased by Netflix's continued acquisition of quality titles over the past few months. Granted, they lost Starz Play (never watched any Starz titles, didn't care), many BBC titles (Red Dwarf), but there is still a lot of quality titles that I have been able to enjoy mostly due to being outside the US for the past five years. I am sure that, for most people, being able to watch "The Sarah Silverman Show," "Senna," or "Chasing Ghosts" matters at all, but I have really enjoyed catching up on some films and TV shows I missed out on.

Now, I think it is pretty cool that NetFlix has picked up a bunch of Hasbro's "The Hub" properties. It isn't something I need to watch, but I am happy to see that there are more titles being made available through the streaming service.

I like that they signed that deal for foriegn films. I'm fairly happy with their selection, but Netflix definitely isn't for everyone. I think it works for people with specific needs. I wish they had a better offering of horror/suspense movies...their collection mainly consists of lame B-movies with a handful of decent ones thrown in. They've got a ton of Classic and Drama films, as well, so overall I've been pretty happy with them (minus the fact that I had to choose between streaming and DVDs or pay more).

I love Netflix, I really do. I think people who complain about it and/or brag about canceling their subscription are just whiny, band-wagon criticizers.

I agree! I love my Netflix, my sons love Netflix, my grandkids love Netflix. I get about 6 movies in the mail every week, and we stream from 50-100 during the month. That's a lot of entertainment for $25! I enjoy the website, I like reading the member reviews, they carry some obscure movies that weirdos like me enjoy, and customer service is great.

I think people who have no clue are dangerous to our society. Netflix is like baby Hitler. Kill it before it's too late.

This is news??? why is a corporations' adding new inventory news? Happens all over America, all over the world every day.

As for Netflix, I check every once in a while to see if they got better since I quit them after years of loyal service. Nope. No better. Their "New Releases" are the same ones they were advertising when I left them in October.

As for their more recent announcements, it's going to take a lot more than The Artist and old Arrested Development show to get me back.

Not to sound mean, but why do you bother to read articles in which you have no interest? I am just curious. I mean, there are so many news sources and so many articles, I only read the ones that interest me. Of course, I never understood the outcry about prices. I had been a member for years, and they raised my rate $4. I wish I could say the same about my electric or water bill! LOL! It may well go up again if the post office goes away.

I did the same. Most things were not online. Would have been ok if they didn't charge you twice now. But since they do, I won't go back.

I wish they would change the interface back. I still find the newer interface slower, harder to use, and less capable.

The problem is that this 28 day window is destroying Blockbuster, Netflix and Redbox. The latest rumor is that they want to move the 28 day release to something like 58 days. The movie studios don't like rentals they want you to spend 23.00 for a movie that six months later will be in the discount 5.99 bin. I have a movie pass at Blockbuster and they get on average 2 copies of every new release which is effectively gone five minutes after the store opens and the Seniors come in. This tells me they are buying the movies just like you or me. Well, maybe, the movie studios will change their mind when the next economic collapse occurs which is happening right now and people aren't willing to spend 23.00 for a new movie.

The key to exterminating this phony "problem" is mental. Don't let Hollyweed advertising decide for you when you should see a film. does Hollyweed rush films out to theaters the day after filming ends? No. There are months of post-filming production, then usually a long wait time for the right weekend to release it against weak competiton, or on a certain holiday.
If Hollyweed doesn't care about showing a film "now", why should I care about watching it "now"? The film will be the same 28 or 58 days later.

Get so sick and tired of people whining about Netflix. The service is $9 freaking dollars! You get a ton of popular TV to watch in FULL uncut, commercial free seasons. Here's 15 reasons to like Netflix:

1. Breaking Bad
2. Mad Men
3. The Walking Dead
4. Doctor Who
5. Sherlock
6. Downtown Abbey
7. Roswell
8. Highlander - The Series, Xena (which I discovered on Netflix and have been enjoying)
9. All the Various Star Treks Shows (Complete runs!)
10. All the Various Law and Orders
11. Breakout Kings
12. Supernatural
13. Buffy/Angel
14. The X-Files
15. Charmed
16. Lost
17. 24
18. Bones
19. Jericho

If you seriously can't find anything to watch - especially TV, then you just don't like TV or being entertained, go back to your books and let us enjoy our service.

I have OnDemand and these shows are NOT available OnDemand and usually OnDemand will only have a couple of episodes at a time, not the full run of a series

Agreed! Since we downgraded our Comcast service to the very basic, we don't have access to Demand, and I've been enjoying catching up with several lost years of TV viewing (had a kid) and rewatching old favorites. LOVE Netflix.

I am getting ready to downgrade my Comcast service as well. It is too expensive to pay for the same old movies & shows replayed over and over again. I am already a Netflix subscriber.
