No Special Rights PAC, Maine Anti-Gay Marriage Group, Seeks End To 'Sodomy-Based Marriage'

Posted: 04/10/2012 10:43 am

No Special Rights PAC, a new anti-gay group, has laid down roots in Maine, where its two founders are hoping to combat a pro-equality push that has led to a same-sex marriage ballot initiative being put to a vote in November.

Paul Madore and Mike Heath, longtime opponents of gay rights and pro-gay initiatives who founded the group, made a public push this month at the University of Maine during Pride Week, where they distributed a "truth pledge" that, among other goals, seeks to rebrand gay marriage as "Sodomy-Based Marriage."

ThinkProgress has a full copy of the pledge, which encourages people to "avoid the deceptive terms 'same sex or gay marriage,'" and to "inform my friends and neighbors that the term 'same sex marriage' contains two contradictory terms, and is therefore, illogical, false, and absurd."

(Click here for a photo of the entire pledge.)

The Associated Press reports:

Madore said he opposes legalizing same-sex marriage because he considers it an attack on religious liberties. He further said homosexuality represents a "culture of death" because of its links to AIDS and because it "doesn’t bring forth life."

Earlier this year, gay marriage advocates in Maine gathered more than 85,000 signatures, nearly 30,000 more than were needed, to secure their initiative a spot on the ballot in 2012.

Pro-gay rights groups have contended that the dynamics in Maine have changed since voters overturned a state legislature-approved measure to legalize gay marriage in 2009. That claim appears to be upheld by recent polling, which showed 58 percent of respondents expressing support for same-sex marriage being legal in Maine.

Call it what you may... Instead of ¨marriage¨ let it be ¨chair¨or ¨bidet¨. Who cares!
What it´s about is giving all Americans the opportunity to pursue happiness. What the country currently does is neuter and opress this minority. A minority that feels it´s about time to be as free as everybody else to pursue happiness and the full American dream.
What the Country needs to do is give equal rights to all its citizens. ¨Bidet¨equality is not about the ¨bidet¨anymore, it´s about equality.
Don´t wed queers in your church if your religious views tell you not to.
If you believe that ¨marriage¨is between a man and a woman, that´s fine, just as fine as my definition of ¨marriage¨. Will you stand by your slogan and remove children from households with only ONE man or ONE woman?
Greed is destroying the fabric of societies, not LOVE...

If two strait people who hate each other can be married than why can't two gay people be married who love each other? Can someone tell me why? It makes so sense to me!

These simpletons can't get beyond the sex act. That's all gay people are to them: an unappealing sex act.

They literally dehumanize gay PEOPLE at any possible opportunity.

Once again, marriage and children do NOT go hand in hand. I have four, straight married couples, who chose NOT to have children. Their argument is based on absolutely nothing. And, they need to listen to Zach Wallis who has two mothers. This is a young man who has grown up balanced, intelligent and grateful to the two women who raised him.

By their reasoning, a child is better off having a mother and a father even if one or the other is beating the cr@p out of the child? Jeez - a sick and twisted view.

Love is love and sex has nothing to do with love - it is a loving act but it does not define me nor does it define a married couple.

I would also suggest to these people, if this is about sodomy based marriage, then folks, you need to chat to your straight friends as a boatload of them enjoy it too.

Sheesh.......

These people need a Life - and to wake up to the reality that what children need is a house full of love and caring. Obviously, they don't know what that means, as their hate for others is quite plain, and towards people who have no impact on them. Going out of your way to accost others shows some serious "issues". I suspect they have plenty of those. And 'sodomy' is also applicable to male/female relationships - they should know this. Or perhaps they haven't grasped that reality either.

Given the current reports of hiring prostitutes, perhaps hetero marriage should be refered to as "traditional whoring."

I have witnessed the hatred and ignorance from people here in Maine towards them and it is so disgusting!!!! I will be outside of the polls in Bangor on Tuesday to try to educate or answer any questions that they may have about this legislation. I hope this year is our year to finally pass this and move ahead! Again thanks to all who support this and jobrolvr33 maybe you need a hug today yourself!!!!!

My 3 stepsons, who were raised mostly in a home with two female heads of house are all responsible, well-adjusted adults. Incidentally, all of them are male and all of them are straight. They never wanted for male role models, as my wife's family is large and full of good men (and women). They are intelligent, polite, respectful, and employed. They volunteer, they pay their taxes and bills, they're healthy and active and they treat their mother like a queen. One is engaged and has a child of his own. They are all good men and I'm glad to have them in my life.

So please, you small-minded bigots, tend to your own families and stay out of mine.

"every child deserves a mother and father" tell that to all the hetero couples leaving their children as wards of the state

Methinks this could be a blessing in disguise. Let them re-brand their hate in such a way that it becomes much easier to see that they are truly being driven by fear and blind prejudice.

I know, right? It's a gift they wish to bestow on their opponents. I suspect that this is the reason why NOM has kept a very low profile in Maine this time around, because of the involvement of these total wackadoodles. They taint anything they are associated with. We couldn't ask for better advertisement for equality than this. I hope they just keep opening their yaps again and again. Pure gold!

That "Every Child Needs a Mother and a Father" sign cracks me up. How many single mothers are out there struggling without the support of their children's fathers. How about they get out there and protest that?

Exactly, how many "Christian" single mothers and fathers are out there. Gays have nothing to do with the decline of the family, its Christian couples own inability to hold their marriages together.

So Paul Madore and Mike Heath are "Partners" who spend a lot time thinking about sodomy, that's something to think about
