Ian Usher, The Man Who Sold His Life On eBay After A Divorce, Finds Love And Buys A Caribbean Island

Ian Usher

In 2008, after his marriage fell apart, a heartbroken Ian Usher auctioned off his whole life on eBay.

For $305,000, he sold his car, his motorbike and his house -- with everything in it. "I have had enough of my life! I don't want it anymore," Usher, who was living in Perth, Australia at the time, wrote in the auction description.

Packing up a few possessions, Usher -- who is originally from Darlington, England -- decided he would make a fresh start, traveling the world armed with nothing but his passport and a bucket list of 100 goals, WA Today reports.

Four years on, Usher has much to smile about. The man who quite literally bid his old life adieu has found a new one -- complete with a new love and his very own Caribbean island.

Setting himself the task of achieving 100 goals in 100 weeks, the 48-year-old former jet-ski instructor has (almost) done it all, the Press Association reports.

He's run with bulls, dived with great white sharks, learned to fly and even joined the Mile High Club.

"It has been the most incredible adventure -- exactly what I was after," Usher told WA Today.

Traveling to dozens of countries around the world, the Briton -- who accomplished 93 of the 100 goals -- also learned French, visited Mount Everest and played a bit role in a Hollywood movie.

Then, just before his money ran out, Usher bought an idyllic 2.2-acre island -- complete with lush rainforest and golden sandy beach -- off the coast of Panama, the Daily Mail reports.

According to the Press Association, the island, where Usher is now building himself a home, cost around $48,000.

But despite all the awesome adventures, the best part of Usher's new life might just be something that wasn't on his list at all: love.

The new love in Usher's life is a Canadian woman who he met while dog-sledding in the wilderness, the Daily Mail reports.

"I’ve learnt that I am much happier and more fulfilled when sharing life’s adventure with a partner," he said, adding that the woman -- named Moe -- visits him on his island frequently.

With his incredible story of hope and renewal, it is no surprise that Usher -- who kept a blog about his travels and recently published a book -- has been approached by Disney about a movie deal.

A new love, life and a chance at superstardom? Not too shabby for a man who sold it all on eBay.

A person's life is not worth any money at all...death equals the playing field except that some have to look forward to eternal life after death and some don't! Money is great for the time being. When you end up with a stroke or heart attack or alzheimers better hope that there is somebody to care for you and respect your dignity. More than money it is better to place your hope on things in heaven, not on earth. Better to trust in the Lord than in wealth. Will wealth save you from death and damnation?

By the way I love that he was not attached to his stuff and was able to part with it easily.

So instead of having a new fulfilling life like he does, he should instead devote his life to praying and loving some made up fairy tale ghost and never be happy as he'll never be sure if he really will go to heaven? Yeaaah, I'ma go with the former.

The origanal poster's point is to believe in the value in one's life. That there is always a better future and that you should hope for tomorrow. The religous tone may have offended you, *Though it pales in comparison to the vindictive tone you yourself are using.* but the point was that money is not equal to happiness. That was the main point. No one said that he HAD to trust the concept of established religion, but you can also say he should trust the future and hope for the best. You don't need to believe in any faith in order to stay determined and hopeful, nor do you need to devote an entirety of one's existence to established religion to remember the grace of life. And yes, when the time DOES come, regardless of whether or not you believe in God, one can argue it doesn't matter how much money you've accrued over the years *Unless I guess it eases the tension off from concerns like family, or the quality of care at the moment that eases off alot of the pain.*. At the very least, it's about the human spirit. Whether you believe or not, May God Bless You.

His post marriage life sounded exactly like a Disney movie. Great to hear of someone who decided to live each day of his life, and was in a position to do it. I wonder though, whether he had children or did he put them out for adoption on Ebay.LOL!

To me this is what life is about. People should not just go along with what everyone else is doing in order to try and make themselves happy. Im sure there are many people who want to do more but just cant because they feel like they have to have a pricey car or home, kids,a job they hate, for what? So that one day they can retire and hopefully be healthy enough to enjoy it? People need to fit enjoyment into their lives now not later.

Truth! I began traveling as soon as I got my first job after college. I was making a pathetic salary, but figured out a way to travel the world on vacations. Once I signed on with a ski club headed for Gstaad(though I don't ski), so I could fly first class for group rate. Once in Switzerland, took train to Paris ASAP!

My husband and I sold our house with everything in it, 2 cars.............everything. We bought a small motorhome and traveled all over the country and saw and did just about everything. It was a wonderful feeling to be able to live your life in one direction...forward. We never had to turn around and go back. We did that in our 20's. We are both 60-ish now. We bought another motorhome, and when retirement gets here we're ready to do it all over again.
