Man Goes To Jail For Sagging Pants: Alabama Judge Slaps LaMarcus Ramsey With Three-Day Sentence

PRATTVILLE, Ala. -- Authorities in central Alabama say a man has been given a three-day jail sentence for contempt of court for wearing so-called saggy pants.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports that 20-year-old LaMarcus D. Ramsey was in Autauga County Circuit Court on Tuesday to enter a plea on a charge of receiving stolen property.

Circuit Judge John Bush told Ramsey his blue jeans were sagging too low and gave him the three-day stint, which will be served in the Autauga Metro jail. The judge told Ramsey to buy pants that fit or a belt when he gets out of jail.

It wasn't known Wednesday morning whether Ramsey has an attorney.

Alabama, no surprise. A judge sentencing someone before him to three days in jail because he didn't like his fashion choices?

Just shows 1) how abusive the contempt-of-court laws. During the Clinton impeachment garbage, at least one woman was kept in jail for years for refusing to lie and admit she had an affair with the President. Contempt-of-court laws should be rewritten to limit them to actual contempt of a legal judge's order, not to pressure people into lying for political purposes, or imposing their own outdated dress code on others! and 2) Is there any place in America more backward, bigoted and hopeless than Alabama? Oh yes, Mississippi, followed closely by South Carolina and Georgia.

We should have let them secede.
