Bo Xilai Scandal And The Mysterious Neil Heywood

New York Times:

BEIJING — At St. Mary’s Church in London’s Thames-side Battersea district, mourners who gathered for Neil Heywood’s memorial service a few days before Christmas were perplexed by the instructions laid down beforehand by one of Mr. Heywood’s classmates from Britain’s elite Harrow boarding school. He asked them not to approach Lulu Heywood, Mr. Heywood’s Chinese wife, and to remain in the pews until she and their two children had left the church.

China is a very dangerous place.

They do a good job of keeping it quiet.

For anybody thinking of travelling there, do some research online before you do so.

Justin Raimondo has written an interesting comment on this death. Basically he guesses that Mr. Heywood had a natural death and that the wife of Bo was subsequently framed. Raimondo claims that Mr. Heywood and his Chinese associates were roadblocks for the plunder of the Chinese economy by what he calls "the Chinese Princelings". Mr. Raimondo claims that China is at the same stage as Russia under Yeltsin, a complete breakup of the communist order but less dramatic.

There is something very kinky about this 'nobody knows what happened or why' la-de-da-de. I say sexual+financial (money laundering, prostitution, arms dealing, drug dealing) are all possibilities. My sympathy goes out to his family/friends.

looks a bit like Julian Assange, so it gave me quite a start at first. But I realized there would be a much bigger headline if that were true! May this man rest in peace.

We should vote with our wallets for American-made goods, or at the very least for goods from democracies that have reasonable labor and environmental regulations.

Reasonable labor and environmental regulation - that actually excludes lots of American-made goods..

At first they called it death by natural causes, a heart attack. After Bo was arrested and lost his political position his wife was charged with Heywood's death. A little suspecious.

Also, Heywood worked with a company associated with British intelligence.

Bo was originally the front choice for party head. He represented Chongqing province as its party leader. Bo was heavily involved in a project to integrate media, internet and wireless network across China. His province was the first 28M subscriber deployment of a 500M network nationwide. Multiple billions of investment by Beijing govt. Stay tuned

This probably is about money laundering gone bad, with a tad of sex thrown in for spice. The Chinese quest for honor by placing their son in a high-prestige western university, and how to clean their ill-gotten gains, probably tempted the Briton, moneys were missing, and then he was dead. Or, Mr. Bo had many mistresses, his wife got angry with her husband, tried or did have an affair, was jilted, then removed him with or without her husband's assistance.
