When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie aren't appearing on the cover of every celeb magazine, they're actually movie stars. After all, they met on the set of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" and never looked back.
Now, for the first time since that 2005 hit, the pair could bring their tabloid-friendly relationship to the multiplex: per Deadline.com, Pitt and Jolie may co-star opposite each other in "The Counselor," Ridley Scott's next film.
Based on an original script by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy ("No Country For Old Men"), "The Counselor" focuses on a lawyer who dabbles in drug dealing to disastrous consequences. Michael Fassbender has long been attached as the lawyer; the actor worked with Scott on the upcoming "Prometheus" and nabbed the lead role earlier this year.
According to Deadline.com, Jolie is in talks to play the female lead. That goes against what Vulture reported earlier this week, as the site had Jolie making what amounted to a cameo appearance in the film. No word yet on the part Pitt would play, but he was initially up for a villain role alongside Javier Bardem and Jeremy Renner. Bardem has apparently locked down the main villain slot -- something he should be comfortable with considering he won an Oscar for playing the heavy in "No Country," McCarthy's most successful big-screen adaptation -- but Pitt could appear as well.
Renner apparently will not co-star. In lieu of "The Counselor," he could feature opposite Scarlett Johansson in a new Broadway adaptation of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."
"The Counselor" is expected to start shooting this summer. Get excited ... now.
