China: Bus Collides Head-On With Truck In Suzhou City, Killing 23

BEIJING -- A state news agency says at least 23 people were killed when a bus collided head-on with a truck in eastern China in the latest serious accident on the country's chaotic roads.

Xinhua News Agency says the accident happened Thursday morning in Suzhou city in Anhui province. It says the truck was carrying a load of sand when the collision happened.

Xinhua says no immediate cause of the accident was given by police. The number of passengers on the bus is also not known.

Road safety is a serious problem in China. According to Xinhua, poorly maintained roads and bad driving habits result in about 70,000 deaths and 300,000 injuries a year.

At least the editor should learn some mandarin before commenting on china issue, or putting irrelevant photos with the news! The picture is a police near a exam place keeping the students safe, and the place of this picture is taken at Beijing, not Suzhou!

When you have 2 billion people, it seems strange that 23 deaths would be a headline.

This happens in Brazil on a regular basis, but we never hear about it from there. Brazil roads have to be the most deadly on the planet.
