HuffPost TV's Maureen Ryan took a look at several episodes of "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23" (9:30 p.m. ET on ABC), and used phrases like "moderately amusing" and saying creator Nanatchka Khan "gets a reasonable amount of comedy" out of the premise in her review. She felt the overly broad supporting cast was problematic, but James Van Der Beek as himself provided some of the strongest humor.
ABC clearly has faith in it, giving it the plum "Happy Endings" time slot after "Modern Family." In this premiere episode, naive Midwesterner June gets bilked out of all her money by Chloe, who convinced her to move in with her and then proceeded to do everything she could to get her to move right back out -- no refunds! It's a ploy she's apparently used several times, including with the neighbor who's obsessed with her.
But when June stood up to her by selling all of her furniture, she earned Chloe's respect. And so Chloe decided to user her powers of b---- for good. After finding out June's fiance was cheating on her, Chloe orchestrated June walking in on him trying to sleep with Chloe to convince her he was bad news.
And James Van Der Beek as James Van Der Beek. Dawson is in the house!
"Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23" airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
