Kreider Egg Farms Video From Humane Society Uncovers Horrible Chicken Abuse (VIDEO)

Kreider Egg Farms

Did you eat scrambled eggs for breakfast? A bacon, egg and cheese? Then unless you raise your own chickens, and use only the eggs from your own coop, you might want to consider reading another story. Maybe check out this cool billboard made of thousands of hot sauce packets!

Nope? Still here? Don't say you weren't warned. Because we're about to dive right in.

Thursday morning, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), one of the country's most prominent advocates of animal rights, released a horrifying video taken undercover at Kreider Egg Farms, a major egg producer in Pennsylvania. The living conditions in the video were so deplorable that they moved New York Times writer Nicholas Kristof to dedicate an entire column to the subject after he saw an advance copy of the footage.

"Is an egg for breakfast worth this," Kristof asks in his headline.

You can answer that question for yourself, following your own sense of morality, after watching the video below. But it seems safe to assume that many people would be offended by Kreider Farms' treatment of the birds. They're crowded into tiny cages and surrounded by clouds of flies and ammonia gas. Dead chickens are left to rot, stuck in cages, for days. It's disgusting.

Kreider Egg Farms, for the record, has denied that the video accurately depicts conditions at its facilities.

If the true conditions are even half as bad as they look in the video, though, it seems like a worthwhile document nonetheless. A HSUS representative who appears in the video explains that the Society hopes the video will help convince people to speak out in support of a major animal welfare bill that will soon be debated in the House of Representatives. The bill would mandate larger cages and better living conditions for egg-laying hens, and has the support of both the HSUS and the United Egg Producers, the country's largest organization of egg-producing farms.

Below is the horrifying undercover video from Kreider Farms; keep in mind that it is very graphic before you decide to watch:

How can they be Right when they are wrong so much

The bill addressing this , HR 3798, was referred to the Agricultural Committee in the House. In February 2012.

Fat chance on that ever seeing the light of day.

As long as we have so many mouths to feed in this country, and as long as we are dependent upon others for our food source, conditions like this will continue to exist.

I am not suggesting anything, or a specific course of action, with my post. I simply don't see a way to avoid situations as long as we mass produce our food. There will ALWAYS be bad conditions. Regardless of what laws may be enacted.

"Kreider Egg Farms, for the record, has denied that the video accurately depicts conditions at its facilities."

Why is it that republicans always lie and expect everyone to believe their lies instead of their own eyes?

While I support free-range, local eggs, there are two sides to every story. Independent investigators and veterinarians have all recently given Kreider Farms high marks for their humane treatment of their animals.

They admittedly have a lot of birds. Anytime you have that volume of animals, there are going to be some that are sick or dead. Even your local free range source can't escape that basic tenet of biology. While there certainly are inhumane livestock/egg producers out there, Kreider invites the public on tours of their facilities, as just one measure of their confidence in the humane treatment of their animals. Shame on the Humane Society for choosing one of the good farms to exploit the bad ones.

It's interesting to hear many people who have no idea what happens on a farm being swayed by "undercover videos" and other propaganda used by animal rights activists. I agree that in a perfect world every animal would have an acre of land to move around and eat freely in a sunshine laden pasture with a small stream running through it from a freshwater spring. Lets get real people!! If animals were treated the way activists want them to be treated, the supply of chicken, eggs, beef, etc would plummet to unseen levels as prices would increase DRAMATICALLY. Why are we so worried about the condition of animals when people are starving because of lack of food to live?!? Its simple economics here...if the supply is down, prices increase. When prices increase, more people are left without the food needed to survive. Instead of looking to ridiculous notions of animal pampering, why don't we consider feeding our fellow humans before we look to cater to animals.

Just some simple food for thought.

We can survive without animal products. Been doing it for years.

I agree that we should consider our fellow human beings. Factory farmed food is contributing to obesity, heart disease and cancer. It's also devastating the environment, as well as the cause of unspeakable suffering to animals.
That sustainable and humane agriculture cannot feed the world is a myth promoted by those making money off the backs of animals.

"If true conditions are even half as bad".....Really? Haven't researched food in this country much...have you? With Tyson, Perdue and another company CONTROLLING the poultry market... they control who gets to grow AND how. It's ain't pretty....and I, for one, will never buy another Perdue or Tyson product....until things change......but I'm not keeping my fingers crossed.

I buy organic chickens and organic eggs....local if they have them.

Our food chain has become a disgrace thanks to about 6-7 companies in this country controlling the market.....and they don't give a flying futang about your health or the welfare of the animals..... it's all about cha ching!

Do yourselves a favor..... see FOOD Inc. to at least get an idea of what's going on.

If you love eating disgusting food....vote republican..... because regulations stifle capitalism.

It's worth mentioning that rather than change their agri-farming practices for the better, industry is instead trying to combat exposure of inhumane treatment by pressuring politicians to outlaw any filming on their premises.

Ahhhh....fellow Food Inc. watcher! Excellent. Let's get the word out there...and let's start the change towards better eating.

I just got Netflix....which is chock full of interesting INDEPENDENT food documentary films....most of which confirm what I already knew.....but also further provide the details of who exactly is involved in destroying our food chain, and our health.....FOR PROFIT.

"Free-range" is often not much better than caged laying hens. The label on the carton is just there to make the consumer feel good, not the animals.

No...it's not worth an egg. We humans have become like monsters in a horror film. It cost a little more but for the last few years I either try to buy from local farms where I can actually see the little guys running around the yard or organic eggs that are also certified humane. I don't eat much meat anymore so eggs are a cheap source of protein, but they are not worth this kind of suffering.

LOLOL...you sound exactly like me. I drive up north several times a year just to get natural foods and visit farms for ACTUAL milk fed veal....seriously...I've seen the farmer just feed them milk all day....sold to NYC restaurants of course, and after watching Food, Inc....i'm going to take a few hours out of my way... to visit POLYFACE, Farms....the farmer in the documentary.....and buy from local stores in the area who carry their meat. I've already googled my route...and will only be a short distance out of my way.

Did you see those gorgeous pasture raised cows? Reminds me of Vermont....and eating my neighbors beef.... and how absolutely fantastic it was.

Yeah, ok. Once you learn to read, you may find out farmers are no longer in control of farming....but big for profit corporations.

The people putting farmers out of business are Perdue, Tyson and other giants that don't give a hoot about farmers, but just a dollar!

Educate yourself first, then post.

You sound just like a little kid exaggerating everything they say to get attention...

The rich need to take less profit and do the right thing ... no farmers will go out of business, corporate agro-business is NOT farming... it is exploiting and nothing else.

All of the first world nations have already done away with this hideous practice and none of them are starving...

always remember that anything right wingers tell you is 100% lie 100% of the time and you might just learn something.

I agree. I actually checked out how many chickens my town allows people to have (3) but considering I'm waiting for my ancient guinea pig to go so I don't have a cage to clean - it's probably best for me to stick with the local farm.

These people need to be prosecuted, and to be put out of business.

It is absolutely ridiculous (and an affront to common sense) that representatives of Kreider Egg Farms would even try to deny the obvious truth that is contained in the videos.

There is a very lonely corner of h*ll waiting for these people...

There are only 6 Big Agra Farms with millions of animals treated far worse than even this. Check them out, watch "The Food Inc. Documentary", pbs. This is what we're mostly eating. 1/3 of your grocery store is made from corn products. Including corn fed beed, Wailt until you see how that's made.
12:26 AM on 04/14/2012
Animal farming is cruel whether it is chickens, cattle, or pigs. The animals have a disgusting life - cattle in manure up to there knees, pigs so cramped they can't turn over or around and chickens kept like this. Not onlly is this utterly inhumane and unethical but it produces huge environmental problems as the waste flows into the streams and rivers. There are then no fish. Oysters are dying out. Religulous people tolerate this. It is for them to justify what they are doing and what they are eating. Nobody needs the amount of meat eaten to-day a breakfast in a restaurant is enough fo four people. No wonder Americans are getting fat. No wonder and still all the religulous worry about is gay marriages and abortion. Adam and e
Eve were supposed to look after everything in the garden of Eden. Noah took all the animals into the arc. And America is putting them all into living conditions which the humane society wouldn't allow a dog to enter much less live in.

Maybe all these so called factory farms and abbatoirs need to have an annual inspection by a government inspector in order to prevent some of these cruelties to domestic animals

I see you have'nt seen "The Food Inc. Documentary" or you'd never say that. You lose your farm if you don't treat your animals like that. For example "tunnel chickens" and "corn fed beef. Fed alive thru a large hole in their side into their stomachs. Where workers actually shove corn into the cow's stomach in a stall. They're standing there, alive, chewing, ehile this corn is being shoved down in there,"

The government, aka the USDA, works only for giant companies that profit from these horrible animal farms. They stopped working for the people a long time ago.

There are only 14 abbatoirs in the 50 United States of Profit....and only a few companies control them....including the one that makes PINK SLIME.
