Michelle Obama: 'Every Mother Works Hard'

WASHINGTON -- First lady Michelle Obama is defending mothers.

"Every mother works hard, and every woman deserves to be respected," she tweeted Thursday.

The first lady's comment follows Democratic consultant Hilary Rosen saying on CNN that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's wife Ann should not be his surrogate on women and economic issues because she had "never worked a day in her life."

Ann Romney said raising five sons was hard work and that her husband considered her job more important than his as family breadwinner.

Both parties are vying for the votes of women, who are a majority of the electorate in this presidential and congressional election year. Women lean heavily Democratic and Romney is trying to peel off those who have been hit hard by the recession during Obama's presidency.

ok..i realize the importance of taking the political high road by a political candidate or their spouse. but, c'mon. if we are talking about "respect," i believe it is a concept that needs to be earned. while it is possible for some of the idle rich to be worthy of respect, the last time i heard of such a case was on the Titanic. albeit except for that one rich dude that wore a dress in order to get in a lifeboat.

I am a married lady and mother.. My husband works hard and I a homemaker raising 5 children who are now grown with children of their own, I have two children at home son who is 4years and a daughter who is 8 yrs old. I have 10 grandchildren and Volunteer with PTA, Hospice and such I work hard as any payed employee .. All have a great day and God Bless
