Gia Coppola Writers Block

The Coppolas are hardly new to the fashion film scene (isn't Marie Antoinette just a feature-length version of a fashion film?), but Sofia's niece Gia Coppola is relatively new to the film scene in general. The 22-year-old filmmaker has a handful of shorts already under her belt, but her latest, "Writer's Block" -- a short film for Diane von Furstenberg's Current/Elliot collaboration -- is great insight into what's to come.

The short tells the story of a young, beautiful 20-something screenwriter with impeccable fashion, who, you guessed it, has writer's block. Though an unfair comparison to her aunt, Gia's work is drastically different. The noises and colors are loud, the shooting and editing confrontational. How do you think it compares to her fellow Coppolas? Watch below, and judge for yourself.

This totally blows. I love sofia coppola. But honestly if gia were not related to FFC or Sofia this crap would not appear on the Huff Po. I would have more respect and attention span for a Cal Arts graduate's film project than this drivel.

I don't understand how this is "nepotism". Seriously? Gia has made a name for herself, not from her Aunt or even her grandfather. Her style is drastically different and if you have seen her student films and stuff you would understand. Though she may be more connected (ok alot more), she actually has alot of talent! She uses her friends as actors in every film, and each is bigger and better than the last. I would understand nepotism if she made a feature right of the bat funded by someone in her family, but honestly she has worked her own way up.

It is nepotism because she is related to someone famous. If this were a random film student I doubt it would be featured on Huff Po. A film student couldn't just walk up to Diane Von Furstenberg and say hey can I make a film for you to premier your new season? Gia obviously has access to these type of people because of her relatives. Her mom ( a PR person and a Getty), her grand father famous director and wealthy wine maker, her aunt of course "sofia".

Breaking news: A neice of someone related to someone who's famous did something!
Thanks, HP.
Now I can face the day.
