Hilary Duff has been busy settling into her new role as mom to baby Luca Cruz but took time to chat with Parade magazine about her new son, choosing his name and how motherhood has affected her marriage with her husband, Mike Comrie.
"I felt my heart grew the second I met him," Duff told Parade about having Luca. "You feel so protective right away. You feel loving and nurturing right away. Everybody always talks about it, about how you don't know love until you meet your baby, and you really feel that. There are no words."
Luca Cruz was born March 20, with Duff and Comrie announcing the birth later that week on the singer's personal website.
"Welcome to the world Luca Cruz Comrie," Duff wrote. "We are overjoyed and feel like the luckiest parents in the world. He is surrounded by so much love!! Mom and baby are both doing extremely well."
As for why the couple decided on Luca Cruz as their son's name, Duff told Parade there isn't a sentimental meaning behind it.
"We don't have any rhyme or reason about why we chose that name ... We just liked the way it sounded together," she said, adding, "Afterwards we found out his name means 'bringer of light.' I love that."
The new mom also dished on life with Comrie now that they are parents, and admitted that she's come to terms with the fact that they do things differently -- and that's OK.
"[With Mike], he's not going to do everything the way I would do it — and vice versa — but we just want the best for Luca," she said. "It's helped me appreciate Mike's role in his life and that we're doing things with the most love that we can. He's really hands on and I appreciate any little help I can get."
Since Luca's birth, Twitter-friendly Duff -- who just shared a new family portrait on the site -- has been making sure to take some time for herself, and has been spotted at a hair salon and hitting up the gym. However, though she's happy for quiet time, it seems she's always happy to head home to her little one.
"Almost home to feed my little bambino! nice to get away for an hour to do something good for myself! But I miss his little face when I'm gone," Duff tweeted Thursday.
