The Washington Post:

Last year, by then under criminal indictment, John Edwards sat with a longtime friend in the 10,000-square-foot house that is the centerpiece of his 102-acre Chapel Hill estate. The friend, a New Jersey lawyer named Glenn Bergenfield who had attended law school with Edwards, was one of the select few members of a diminishing club: those whom the disgraced Edwards wanted to see, and those who wanted to see him.

Sad commentary on John Edwards. No one will ever know, if he could have quelled his personal demons and truly done something constructive with his life. It would be my hope that he would retrench and focus on his family. In the final analysis, they are all that truly matters.

Edwards is a good and decent man. His wife, as she died, was not functional and a wife in name only. She was very happy to promote him for her own ambitions, and turned on him when she no longer needed him. He would have made a great president, but he would have needed a great country to start with, and ours hasn't been that for some time now.

glowdotor, you are clearly delusional. Edwards wife didn't turn on him. Edwards turned on her when he pursued another woman and turned his back on his family. A good and decent man would not and could not have done the things Edwards did. The way a person conducts themselves in their private life is the true measure of a person's character. In his public life, Edwards talked the talk but he didn't walk the walk. You are entitled to you own opinion, but you clearly haven't looked at all the facts, and until you do, you should keep your opinion to yourself.

You are sadly mistaken in your opinion of the former Mrs. Edwards. Do not forget, she was a degreed lawyer herself and the mother of four of his children. My guess would be that you are somewhat misinformed, or that you just do not like women in general. There seems to be a lot of that going around lately.

I continue to agree politically with John Edwards who advocated real solutions for
for this country's problems with health care, housing morgages, and dramatic wage income inequalities. I, especially, agree with his ideas about the U.S. government
putting matching funds directly into the savings accounts of middle and low income Americans. Yes, there is political silence
and a void on the National scene where John Edwards should be.

I appreciate the sacric

I appreciate the sacrifices of the Edward's family. I pray God will allow John Edwards
to raise the children he had with Elizabeth Edwards right there in the home she created for them.

John Edwards doesn't understand why he's getting so much wrath, equating his 'mistake' to that of Clinton and Kennedy's behavior.

Clinton and Kennedy didn't cheat on their wives who had been diagnosed with a terminal disease, continue with a presidential campaign and then continue to deny the existence of his own daughter, having an aide proclaim he was the father.

I'm not excusing Clinton or Kennedy, but John Edwards feels more sorry for himself than he does for those he caused pain. It just seems ridiculous for him to not get it after all this time.

What about Newt asking wife #2 for a divorce while in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery?

I forgot about that one; probably because I don't pay much attention to Newt. Thanks!
