In advance of the "Shahs of Sunset" season finale on Sunday night, Reza Farahan and Mercedes "MJ" Javid stopped by "The View" (weekdays on ABC) to reflect on the season and preview its finale episode. Both reality stars talked about the challenges and rewards of putting their personal lives in front of the cameras.
Reza talked about how he hopes telling his story, as an openly gay Persian-American, has helped other people come to terms with their sexuality. "The only reason I did the show was to bring exposure to something that is so taboo. So many people commit suicide, they live fake lives, they get married, they're miserable, and I thought if I put myself out there, I'm strong enough to take whatever heat anyone has to give ... But if it can help someone who's struggling with their sexuality, give me all the heat," he said.
The finale features a particularly tough scene where Mercedes' mother tells her she doesn't think she's "marriage material." MJ shared just how painful that conversation was. "It crushed me, it really did. The way that our relationship is portrayed on the show is very accurate ... She and I have a very tumultuous relationship, but I love her and she loves me, so we haven't given up."
The season finale of "Shahs of Sunset" airs Sunday, April 15 at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo.
