Evanston Home Invasion: Couple In Their 60s Duct-Taped, Attacked, Robbed Of Artwork

Posted: Updated:

An elderly couple in Chicago's north suburbs is recovering after they were attacked by two men during a home invasion Friday.

Ronald Fink, 67, and his wife Bonita, 68, were left bruised after the incident, which occurred at 8:40 a.m. Friday when two men gained entrance into their apartment on the 2200 block of Central Avenue by claiming that they were delivering a package for them, ABC Chicago reports.

Once inside the apartment, however, the men jumped on Fink and proceeded to knock the couple to the ground and bind their hands and feet with duct tape. Fink's wife suffered a mild heart attack during the robbery and is now recovering at an area hospital, according to the Associated Press.

Next, the robbers grabbed four paintings perhaps valued at $10,000 and made off with them with the help of a third man waiting in a white van parked behind the apartment building, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Fink had previously sold a valuable piece of art worth hundreds of thousands of dollars at a Sotheby's auction, according to CBS Chicago. Police believe this may have motivated the thieves to target the couple.

Despite the attack, Fink told the Sun-Times, "It's gonna take more than what these kids dished out this morning to shoot down an old New York City kid."

Police are investigating the incident and are hopeful that, since Central Avenue is a busy street, someone saw something that could help them nab the suspected robbers.

Evanston Patch reports that the suspects are described as either white or Hispanic men. One wore dark clothing, possibly a black shirt and pants. Another had a stocky build and was wearing a red and white shirt with black pants. They may have been driving a truck rented from Budget.
