"One of the advantages that I have with the Samba this week is the fact that I am Latin," J.R. Martinez (who's Salvadoran) said during "Latin Week" on season 13 of "Dancing With the Stars." Martinez added: "And one thing about being raised by a single mother is, I always was dancing with my mom, so I'm hoping that will help me do well with the Samba." The Army veteran and actor initially struggled to conquer the Samba, but an outing to a Conga club (where fellow Latina Sheila E., was playing the drums), inspired J.R. to connect with his Latino roots. "It really allowed me to remember, you just gotta have fun," he said. When J.R. and his partner Karina Smirnoff hit the stage, their performance was sexy, loose, and the hip thrusting was incredible! The judges loved the performance, calling J.R. a "sex machine," and giving him a combined score of 28. "It feels good," J.R. said after the performance. "I had to dig down to my Latin roots and just have fun...That's the biggest thing about Latinos--we just have fun with music and we let our body take care of the rest."
When Mexican actor and TV host Mario Lopez was on season 3 of "Dancing With the Stars," he turned every week into "Latin Week." Among the dances Mario performed were the Cha-Cha-Cha, the Tango, the Mambo, and the Samba. But our favorite Mario performance of all time has to be the "Paso Doble." "The Paso Doble is a very Latin dance and hopefully I'll be able to bring that to the dance floor," Mario said before taking the stage for "Latin Week." Lopez and his partner Karina Smirnoff sizzled on the dance floor to the sounds of "Cancion Del Mariachi," by Los Lobos and Antonio Banderas. The performance, which was both elegant and raunchy, earned Mario and Karina rave reviews from the judges. "Mario el superbo!" Judge Bruno Toniolo said. "You are tonight the embodiment of Latin pride, passion, and excitement!"
Talk about a "Mambo King!" On season 6 of "Dancing With the Stars," sexy Chilean actor Christian de la Fuente brought plenty of heat to this Mambo with his partner Cheryl Burke. The toned actor was dancing with his shirt open years before William Levy ripped his shirt open on "Dancing With the Stars." Caliente!
Part-Spanish dancer Mark Ballas and his season 12 partner Chelsea Kane danced a traditional Samba in season 12 and nailed it! Before their performance Mark called the Brazilian dance, "the most difficult of all the Latin dances." But once the pair hit the stage, they made the dance look effortless.
Brazilian race-car driver (and "Dancing With the Stars" season 5 winner) Hélio Castroneves and his partner Julianne Hough painted the stage red with this energetic performance of the Red Hot Chili Peppers song, "Love Rollercoaster."
