Survey Says: You'd Give Up What?

How much do American employees want to telecommute? So much that 5 percent of them would get a divorce in exchange for being able to work from home (which frankly seems a bit extreme), a study from TeamViewer reports. Here's what else respondents were willing to give up if it meant they could work remotely:

  • Social media: 34 percent
  • Texting: 30 percent
  • Chocolate: 29 percent
  • Smartphone: 25 percent
  • Shopping: 20 percent
  • Raises: 17 percent
  • Half their vacation days: 15 percent
  • Daily showers: 12 percent

Why it matters to your business: I certainly wouldn't suggest you make your team ditch their spouses to work from home. (On the other hand, if they're going to give up bathing, maybe you'd rather have them work from home). But the study, however flippant, does highlight just how much workplace flexibility matters to employees today. And on the more serious side, with workers willing to trade raises or time off for the ability to work at home, you could conceivably make your staff very happy while enjoying substantial savings.
