Hamster Villa In France Allows Humans To Live Like Hamsters (VIDEO)

Villa Hamster
The rooms at Villa Hamster in Nantes, France, are made to look like hamster cages and even have running wheels.

Maya Angelou may have written "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings," but an entrepreneur in Nantes, France, is giving people a chance to see what it's like to live life as another caged animal -- the hamster.

French "scenographer" Yann Falquerho, 42, runs Villa Hamster, a hotel that allows guests to give up the daily stresses of being human and try out life as a hamster.

The Villa dates back to the 1700s, but has been modernized for the 21st century human-hamster hybrid, with cages for rooms, hay stacks instead of beds and human-sized running wheels, according to Oddity Central.

The guests have the option of wearing little hamster hoodies as well.

As for food? Well, instead of the normal French cuisine items like coq au vin with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, the guests eat organic hamster grains served in little containers and sip water on all fours.

However, the German website Reisen.t-online.de is quick to note that there are coffee machines in each cage, because even the happiest hamster can be a bear without their morning java.

The idea of spending a week in France imitating a hamster may sound bizarre, but Falquerho says there are a lot of people who are fulfilling a lifelong dream.

"The hamster in the world of children is that little cuddly animal," he told Reuters. "Often, the adults who come here have wanted or did have hamsters when they were small."

The hamster haven has been open for nearly three years and Falquerho says he is a stickler for customer satisfaction.

"We always ask [guests], 'Why do you want to come into our house?' And every time they tell us, well, 'It was so strange so we wanted to see this house. We've never seen a place where we can transform into a hamster,'" he told Oddity Central.

Things are going so well, in fact, that he is considering opening similar chateaus where people can live like dogs or cats.

Now that will be called good living, because people generally pamper their cats and dogs.
