Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays a flighty Vice President with minimal responsibilities on her new HBO comedy series "Veep," which premieres this Sunday. And while Sarah Palin may have been the target of much vice presidential media mockery -- especially in light of HBO's recent movie "Game Change" -- the "Seinfeld" veteran made clear Tuesday on "Live! With Kelly" (weekdays on ABC) that her character isn't supposed to be a Palin caricature.
"You'll never know what party she's in, and you'll never see the president. It's a very particular tone and it's really about political behavior. It's the powerful position of Number Two," she explained.
Tony Hale, who played Buster Bluth on "Arrested Development," plays Meyer's body man in the show, and in the clip "Live!" showed, he jumped on a conference table in the middle of a meeting to make sure the V.P. wasn't in harm's way. Louis-Dreyfus explained his character's role thusly: "He's the guy that follows me everywhere and tells me who it is I'm about to be speaking to and gives me Altoids or lip balm or whatever it happens to be," she previewed.
"Veep" premieres Sunday, April 22 at 10 p.m. ET on HBO.
