An Ormond Beach woman was arrested on April 14 after leaving her son in a car to drink at a bar where she was applying for work.
Mallory Renee Mims, 22, drove to the Pirana Grille in Ormond Beach to fill out a job application while her 5-year-old son waited in the vehicle. Mims decided to stay an extra hour to have three tequila shots, according to the Ormond Beach Police arrest report, at which point started to cause a disturbance and "ramble."
A customer came into the bar and said that a child was alone in a car in the parking lot. Mims allegedly denied that she was his mother, but then left the restaurant. Bartenders followed her to her car, took her keys, and called the police.
When police arrived, she woke up her son and started talking about strippers and cursing at the police officers.
“[Mims] was very agitated (sic) and had an odor of alcoholic beverages. [Mims] was rambling on about numerous things and appeared to be talking to people who were not on scene,” according to the report.
Mims was arrested at 2:10 a.m. and taken to the Volusia County Sheriff's Department on charges of child abuse and leaving a child under 6 alone in the car for more than 15 minutes.
Ormond Beach Police Lt. Kenny Hayes told HuffPost Miami the boy was unharmed and is now in the care of Mims' mother.
