Cameron Diaz Covers InStyle And Talks About Motherhood

The Huffington Post  |  By Posted: 04/19/2012 11:49 am Updated: 04/19/2012 9:20 pm

Cameron Diaz is all smiles on the cover of InStyle Magazine’s May issue (on newsstands Friday).

The part-Cuban actress, who will next be seen starring opposite fellow Latina A-lister Jennifer Lopez in the pregnancy flick, "What To Expect When You're Expecting" (out on May 18th), tells InStyle that she's not interested in becoming a mom simply because that's what she's expected to do.

"Society definitely puts pressure on women to make them think their lives should go a certain way. I’ve never said I don’t want children—I just haven’t had children yet," she said.

Diaz added that she's open to the idea of becoming a mom. "I don’t know what’s going to happen in my life! I could end up adopting children. I could end up with a partner who already has children. Who knows?" she said. "I’m not trying to fit into anyone’s box about how I should be. I just fit in my own box.”

The 39-year-old actress, who has dated an eclectic group of guys that includes, Matt Dillon, Jared Leto, Alex Rodriguez, and Justin Timberlake, says she's aware that her past boyfriends don't have in much common. “I would never have guessed that I would end up dating any of the guys I’ve dated—never! There’s no through-line between them,” Diaz tells the magazine. “But I love love, and love comes from many different places. When I was going through a bit of a heartbreak a little while ago, I said to a friend, ‘Wow, this really hurts!’ And he said to me, ‘That just shows you what your capacity for loving is.’"

As tough as heartbreak is, Diaz says love is worth it. “I would rather have my heart broken a thousand times than never to love at all. I have so much love to give—I’m not empty of love, I’m full of love.”

The fit star, who showed off her long legs during a now-famous car-wash scene in the irreverent comedy "Bad Teacher," also tells InStyle she has a new calling: nutrition educator.

“Everyone needs to find a purpose, and I think mine is to help other people," she said. "This project is only in the blueprint stages, but I’m creating a space where I can teach healthy habits that girls can build on. I see women struggling with their bodies because they don’t know how they work on basic levels, starting with nutrition. The more I talk about this with people, the more I realize how much it’s needed. I’m really throwing all of my energy into it.”

In the movie The Mask, she was a vision of beauty. Perfect. But time pass and the perfect face change. I think if you are ONLY beautiful at 20, at 40 you are odious.

It is a shame that a women with her talent and funds having a problem finding " the one." Women need to realize that after 40 the possibility of having a baby with problems really shoots off the charts. Think of the child before you think of yourself.

if your 39 you don't have forever. If you don't want kids at all say so but don't be freaking out at 40 when you realize it won't be easy reproducing.
04:46 PM on 04/20/2012
Should anyone really have to "say" whether or not they want kids? We should not need to justify our choices to society. And from her comments CD doesn't appear to be "freaking out" about motherhood...And 39 is not ancient. I have a former colleague who miscarried several times in her 20s to early 30s only to successfully have 3 beautiful children at the ages 36, 39 and 41. She'd given up motherhood - yet she is proof that motherhood does not always happen in our planned time frame. It's funny - why is it a woman gets criticized for being a certain age thinking of kids when men in their 50s and 60s think it's okay father children in their older years? Cameron gets insulted for addressing motherhood at 39. Yet an actor as old as Michael Douglas has kids who are not even teenagers - and he happens to be older than his wife's father. Sheesh...the double standards in this world....

Did I read she's 39yoa? Why is everyone saying she's old? Only in this Country is a 39 yoa woman old, if it were a man he'd be considered a "young" man, rediculous. She's certainly not too old to have a baby or adopt her best years are still ahead. Not to mention she'll have all the help money can buy. At 39 yoa my life had just begun.

CD is the classic, fading Hollywood starlet.
The years have passed, her eggs have dried up.
One crop of hickeys after another and still no "relationship" of substance.
Of course she'll be adopting, there's a menagerie out there in the 3rd world for her to bring back to Hollywood to enroll in every child-shrink's appointment calendar.
No sympathy for a blonde Kardashian.

Who has children because society says so? Pls gimme a break Cameron you too old and have been totally self-centered for 39 years! Not a good candidate for motherhood.
10:13 AM on 04/20/2012
Lots of women (and men) do things in life because society dictates "it's the norm." I mean think about it - some gays and lesbians are still afraid to reveal who they are because they fear public opinion. People not having sex by a certain age will lie about themselves to keep from being perceived as freakish by society. PLENTY of people live their lives according to "what society says" and at least people like CD are bold enough to say "not me." This doesn't necessarily make her self-centered any more than I feel like I am such - and I"m a year older than her without children. There are some of us who feel it's not okay just to be out birthing children because it's "the norm" or "in thing" to do. She wouldn't be any worse of a mother than these female stars spewing out babies out of wedlock with every guy who crosses their paths.

Hard to contradict a chick who's got $, it makes living "outside the box" much easier for the aspirations of motherhood single, married etc...as for the take away tips for nutrition and health while helping people, stick to your job and become educated in the realm of "helping people."

It's coming around more and more that "celebrity workouts" aren't "real people" workouts.

But good for you Cameron!
