Chevy Chase On 'Community' Season 4: Actor Expected To Return

'Community' Star: Chevy Chase Will Probably Be Back

If "Community" returns for a Season 4, Chevy Chase is expected to return, according to Joel McHale.

Speaking at an NBC press event on Wednesday, McHale, Chase's "Community" co-star, said he expects Chase to return to the series ... if NBC opts to renew "Community" for Season 4.

Chase and "Community" creator Dan Harmon's behind-the-scenes feud erupted publicly when a recording of a voicemail Chase left Harmon leaked online. Harmon reportedly had played it for a crowd and has since apologized.

"I was doing what I always do, and always get in trouble for doing, and always pay a steep price for doing," Harmon later wrote on his blog. "I was thinking about myself and I was thinking about making people laugh. I was airing my dirty laundry for a chuckle."

When HuffPost TV was on the "Community" set shortly before the show wrapped Season 3, Chase seemed unsure of his future with the comedy.

"I probably won't be around that much longer, frankly," he said.

The future of "Community" itself has been in question. NBC benched the low-rated comedy for three months, making way for other comedies. The show returned to high ratings, but has since slumped back down. While serving as "Live! With Kelly's" co-host, McHale said he hoped the voicemail scandal would help the show's renewal chances.

"We don't have the fourth season pick up, so if this somehow helps then yes, let's hope that happens," McHale said of the feud to a round of applause.
