Fans of "Cougar Town" (Tue., 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC) know that Ellie is the mean one in the group, but she's positively an angel when compared to her mother. And yet her mother was so good at putting on one face for Jules and others, only to show her true colors to her daughter, that Jules refused to believe Ellie that her mom was evil.
When Ellie shoved Jules under a counter, her mom let loose with the insults towards Jules, proving Ellie right. But all Ellie wanted was for her mother to say one nice thing about her. So she set Jules up to try and make it happen by bonding with her mother by over meanness.
After some wine, the meanness bonding worked, but apparently Ellie's mother truly doesn't have anything nice to say about her daughter. Meanwhile, Jules' dad was helping Travis and Bobby steal a cougar statue down at the college. These parental glimpses speak a lot to the characters of Jules and Ellie, and why Ellie has such a dark side, but needs the love of her friends.
