Obama Mortgage Unit Is AWOL

New York Daily News:

Three months ago, in his State of the Union speech, President Obama announced a new task force to investigate mortgage fraud and bring some measure of relief to the 12 million American families who are either losing their homes or in danger of losing them.

Obama is good at setting up task forces, studies, commissions, summits, etc. He's very good at making promises. As for follow through, he fails miserably.

It seems kind of silly for the article to rely on the choice of the one word, "speed," as its primary basis. However, that not withstanding, speed is a relative term. That's what makes speed, speed. One thing is certain - it took months and years for the mortgate situation to occur. It took a good year for politicians to even understand what credit default swaps were (many still don't.) Anyone looking for quick fixes or resolutions is either naive, or expects failure from the outset.

Politicians (Congress, for example) have staff and resources beyond what we "ordinaries" have. They can ask experts quickly. If they didn't use staff and resources, they could have read TIME magazine or business publications talking about tranches, CDOs, CDSs, and CDO squareds. The FBI warned in 2004. Others warned and predicted. There were also ways to wind down some of the banks, but Paulson ruled and Goldman Sachs got bailed out 100% on their AIG swaps. That's not normal - 100%. That's outrageous - 100%.

I would imagine they first have to sort through the mile high pile of paperwork left from the recent multi-state lawsuit, so we can expect it to take time.

I watched a few senate hearings on this, and it's one huge complicated mess.

If you simply compare Obama's response to several things of critical importance to FDR's response, you do not have to feel "Taxed Enough Already" to be disappointed. FDR used Pecora to investigate what went wrong, and Pecora didn't paper over the problems. That led to appropriate action and legislation. FDR also initiated a mortgage lending program to keep roofs over people's heads that appears far more successful than Obama's HAMP with servicers rewarded for double tracking.

Where is his VP, .. Biden can be appointed to assist with major issues ... while the POTUS is forced to continue his campaign promises of 4 years ago. Oh wait, ..... the repubs openingly expressed Obama is doomed for failure from the minute he took office... their agenda called for do nothing on anything the POTUS pushed.. Therefore, even his mortgage task force is doomed in the months the agreement for the by many state AG's signed for. Where is the oversite chairperson ?? This is a shame!

Dogs? Doggone! We're going to have an Obama vs. Romney dogfight.
Out here in fly-over country, three state representatives nominated three different dogs as "state historic dog," two reps saying they introduced legislation in response to school children's suggestions. That will not fix school funding and other state problems.
Next we have old news about Romney putting his dog in a doggie carrier on top of his car years past, emulating Chevy Chase antic style from Vacation movies. We have Dana Milbank saying Romney is like Milbank's dog ZZ. Finally we have more dug from the past information that Obama ate dog while in Indonesia. We haven't heard the last of that one as joke fodder. Apparently we have a political year going to the dogs. And none of these dogs hunt. Most are dead - the historic dogs, Romney's dog and the ones Obama ate.
