Missing the dressage World Cup finals. No time for yachting. Critics preventing them from getting the garage elevator built. The Romneys are downwardly mobile.

Mitt and Ann should just say "Eff it." and be the people they are, totally rich and totally insulated from the rest of the country. I know I would respect them more if they would just do that. He should stop playing to the base and stand behind his medical mandate, he should say he is pro-choice and Ann should just admit that she never had to work a day in her life. She should also go to her dressage competition, shop for designer clothes, and go to "lunch" everyday. Both of them should practice their religion openly, and dine at expensive restaurants. They should also have more fundraisers with their rich friends and introduce the public to them. He should tell the truth and just say that he is in favor for tax cuts for the rich because hell, he's rich and he doesn't want to pay more taxes. Ann should thank her nannies, her baby nurse and her maids publicly for raising her children and announce to everyone that if you can't get that kind of help, well she just feels sorry for you. Last, but not least, Mitt needs to admit that he spent 5 years going to Harvard, so really he's just smarter than President Obama cause after all, he only spent 4 yrs. there. With all of that he may not win President, but at least we could respect him.

Now I get it.
There's no household staff because the barn staff sucks up all the money.
Start explaining this, Ann, and people will understand the difficult choices and sacrifices you make.

Not to worry, at least they won't miss the dancing elephants in Tampa Bay in August, 2012.

You enjoy what you enjoy. I happen to like track and field, football, basketball, baseball, and watching ballroom dancing. So the fact that the Romneys are rich and own horses that travel around the world dancing is no big deal. But it does make it hard for Romney to be anything but a 1%er, and probably won't go over well as chit chat over a beer in a local pub in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh (unless he happens to run into some of the Devon Horse Show crowd - Dressage at Devon 9/25/12 - 9/30/12 - but you probably know all of those rich folks from Devon, Villanova, and Wayne already.)

Enjoy your horses, Mitt. And I'm sure you won't mind if the rest of America doesn't enjoy them with you.

*I bet Mitt and Ann Romney strap him to the top of the car to; well maybe not, maybe they just tie him to the bumper and drag him along...

Just ordinary folk those Romneys. Real salt of the earth regular Joes. I'm sure we would all feel perfectly comfortable having a frosty mug of beer with good old Mitt. I'm sure Ann could rouse the kitchen staff to get some stale pretzels, and we could sit around discussing our Cayman Island corporations, Swiss Bank accounts, Dressage Horses, and taking American companies offshore for big profits.

Nah.
The Romneys are Real blue-bloods.

The Salahi's were "pretenders" to wealth, class, and power in every sense.
The Romneys wouldn't be caught dead with such riff-raff, or you, or me, or 99% of America....

I'll agree to the wealth & power. Class - no.

Anyone with class would have sent their kids to the orthodontist.

Dressage isn't just "dancing horses", though they can look like they are dancing in the freestyle competitions. Dressage is about training of horse and rider in techniques which came from the trainng of war horses over the past thousand years. It isn't easy and yes, the very best horses cost a lot - as do thoroughbred racing horses. You don't need an expensive horse or lots of money to do dressage (thought that would help, no doubt) at least not at the lower levels.

The Romneys are really out of touch in so many ways that you can't count them all. They use their money to buy into the top levels of the sport, as do so many of the rich. It shouldn't be used as a club against the sport, but against the idea that you can be a top competitor in a very intense, time-consuming sport just by writing a check.

Agree.
The Spanish are the best.
I don't know what their technique is called, but it's very ancient and very impressive.

Like I said in another post, Ann COULD have easily attended this event if the Romneys had one iota of forethought and had set up a "Dressage Camp" charity years ago for MS patients and underprivileged groups. Put their name on it. Expand. In the 8 years Mitt has been running for President - it would be well-known by now.

Ann could have been basking in picking up an award at a ceremony at this event - if they only had foresight that this was an Obvious political problem - one outlined in McCain's "opposition research" book - which Romney's folks have long possessed.

Clueless & Hubris.

Muted shades of the unheeded "Bin Laden Determined to" memo.

Not a good sign for the proverbial "3am call."

The Spanish use dressage as well. My wife trained her horses with dressage and it's used in every form of horsemanship. She actually trained them as western horses, working cowhorse and reining, but uses dressage to train them. It is really a great way of communicating with the horse and a lot less stressful, but it takes a long time to do it right.

Just as an afterthought, we only paid $2500 for the better of my wife's two horses, so they aren't quite the same as the Romney's warmblood.

It is not uncommon for the super wealthy owners of these animals to not be present foe competition. that's why they hire staff to transport, train, care for, and ride these horses. It takes a village of underlings to compete in these things.

It may not be common knowledge to people who aren't familiar with horse competitions.
