Media Figures On TIME's 100 Most Influential People In The World (PHOTOS)

Time magazine named six media figures to its annual "100 Most Influential People in the World" list on Wednesday.

Managing editor Richard Stengel described why they were chosen. "Now [one] can tweet a phrase that reaches millions in a flash. Influence was never easier—or more ephemeral," he wrote. "Which is why we try to choose those people whose influence is both lasting and, with a few notable exceptions, laudable."

The honorees' profiles were written by guest contributors. For example, Howard Stern wrote of Matt Lauer, "We all wondered, Was it over? It’s over, it’s over, he’s losing his hair! It’s got to be over! But we were wrong!… He was still the smartest, the strongest, the classiest… No wonder NBC is paying someone $25 million a year and it ain't me!"
