Lydia Chako Allegedly Caught Throwing Baby Into Ocean: Mom Says Tot Is Possessed

Chako
Lydia Chako is accused of child abuse by Clearwater, Fla. police.

A Florida mom tried to drop her 3-month-old baby into the ocean because she claimed it was possessed by demons, and covered in lizards and snakes.

That's what Clearwater police are saying about Lydia Chako, 39, who was arrested on Tuesday when she was found allegedly half naked and dangling the baby over a sea wall, according to WTSP.

The scary story began when a property manager arrived at Chako's apartment at 1:45 p.m. and noticed it was flooded. The manager found Chako inside, throwing things and ranting about how her baby was covered in lizards and snakes.

Chako explained that she was "keeping the demons out" before lifting the child by its feet and walking out the door, according to the Miami Herald.

The property manager called police, who found Chako nearly nude and standing on the sea wall, allegedly dangling the baby over the water. Cops distracted her long enough to snatch the baby away.

Chako confessed to detectives that she was trying to throw the baby in the water, according to the Bradenton Herald.

She was arrested on a child abuse charge.

I am so glad that baby is safe. It happens too often when the baby or child(ren) are not rescued in time. If she needs treatment for mental illness I hope she gets it. We can speculate that it was drugs or alcohol or a history of use but we don't know. We won't know until more of the facts come out possibly at trial. But by then interest in her and her abused infant will have died down. Maybe by then the baby will have been adopted by a deserving couple who would NEVER raise their hands and voices for any reason but rejoicing.

It is not the baby's fault. He/she did not ask to be born into this world and have a psychotic mother.

I agree. Thank goodness the baby is okay.

Maybe postpartum depression? It can get so severe that, if let untreated, psychosis can develop. Whatever the cause, I am glad to hear the baby is okay and hope she gets the help she needs.

Why not a charge of attempted murder? Supposedly the cops witnessed her holding the baby over the water, right?

Should I be "punished" if I "misbehave"?

I suppose it's her religious freedom to practice baby-demon expulsion.

post-partum psychosis.unless drug use was involved or a longterm history of mental illness exists.

or maybe she is just a violent and abusive mother.
I do believe she was on some illegal drug.

A lie's a lie, even if everyone believes it.

This is what's in the bible. I'm amazed there aren't more murders of children in the name of exorcizing the demons out by indoctrinated believers. Not even a glimmer of surprise here.
So glad someone was quick enough to grab that baby. On the bright side, he/she would have have a nightmare of a life if this didn't happen and baby grew up with this beast for a 'mom.'

What causes this type of mental illness? Post-partum depression? When I was kid, a lady neighbor did almost the same thing. Left her home naked with her 2 children in the middle of the night during a blizzard. She went into the lobby of an apartment complex, murdered her toddler boy and was stopped before finishing off her infant daughter. She said they were possessed. I have heard so many similar stories. Why is this so common? Just glad she was stopped before she threw the poor baby in.

religion causes people to blur the lines between reality and imagination.

It is just so common for these women to be in the nude, a lot of the time their child(ren) are nude as well. And it seems to be most common for them to try to kill their children in water (from what I know, anyway). Women who have never met, may have never heard of someone else doing this, all have the same or similar ideas. The Bible's a big book, hard to believe they all interpet the same part in the same way. Unless it specifically says somewhere in there to get undressed and kill your child in water preferably, but if not possible, then anywhere else will do, too. Which I don't believe it does. It was definitely mental illness in the case of my neighbor, she was not on any drugs. Same with a lot of the other women I have heard of doing this.

She even looks like a psycho. They should order her to have her tubes cut and burned and lock her away in a mental hospital.

Why? It must be nice to be such a powerful deity to hand down such heartless judgement on people. To tell them what they are and are not worthy of based on one event in their lives.
