Meenakshi Thapar Dead: Bollywood Actress Killed After Being Kidnapped By Co-Stars

The Huffington Post  |  By Posted: 04/19/2012 1:48 pm Updated: 04/22/2012 12:41 pm

Bollywood actress Meenakshi Thapar reportedly has been gruesomely killed by two of her co-stars in a failed attempt to extort money from her family.

26-year-old Thapar was strangled and then beheaded after allegedly being kidnapped by two aspiring actors that she worked with on her latest film "Heroine".

Amit Jaiswal, 36, and his lover Preeti Surin, reportedly decided to kidnap Ms. Thapar after listening to her boast about her family’s wealth and status in Dehra Dun, in the Himalayan foothills of northern India, according to Britain's Daily Telegraph.

The New York Daily News quotes Indian police as saying Amit Jaiswal and his girlfriend Preeti Surin allegedly lured Thapar on a trip with them to the town of Gorakhpur. According to the report, the pair then took Thapar captive and sent threatening communications to her mother, saying they would force her to make pornographic films if their demands were not met.

Jaiswal and Surin had demanded a 1,500,000-rupee (approximately $28,000) ransom from Thapar's family. The International Business Times reports that Thapar's mother gave the kidnappers 60,000 rupees (just over $1,000). The pair evidently decided the amount was insufficient, and reportedly killed Thapar by strangling her to death and then beheading her.

The Daily Caller reports that Jaiswal and Surin were subsequently discovered in posession of Thapar's cellphone and simcard and confessed to the murder.

Thapar was best-known for her role in Indian horror film "404". She met her killers while working on that film, according to National Turk.

Did you have to use a cropped "head shot" HP? That's as short sighted as ESPN and that Lin business.

All for money. When will people learn that money is just a social concept that buys a lot but nothing worthwhile. can't take it with you, can't buy health, can't but happiness, yet we kill for it. Am I the only one who finds these displays of violence silly?

It also says a lot about her as a person to feel like she needs to brag about what she has. It's in bad taste to boast. By putting value on the wrong thing she lost what was most precious & her parents wealth can't buy it back

Wait, don't tell me. You're a shrieking OWSer who believes those with talent, intelligence, and an actual work ethic are put on this earth to labor, risk and create just so they can have it all confiscated by a government of mediocrities who will divide it up into the crumbs that will allow incompetent, spoiled-rotten, worthless-yet-oh-so-entitled leeches to get through their miserable, small, meaningless little lives without ever having to leave their mommy's couch (and buy those mediocrities their votes! After all, Congress is where all the insider-trading is!). That's what productive people have to do for the privilege of living in America. In fact, our Founders made that the very first sentence of our Constitution, and they wrote it in the biggest letters, too!

Btw, weren't you the one who took a dump on that cop car? Thought I recognized you.

If we are going to start judging countries based on one criminal activity all countries are bad.
In St louis there is this woman who killed his 1 year old by banging her head vigorously just because the baby didn't allow her to sleep. She went ahead and filed a missing report later.

Its not just one criminal activity ! How many criminal
activities make a criminal activity? How about Godhra
massacre? The Chief Minister Narendra Modi himself
advised the police chief to remain inactive and thus
helped the slaughtering of the hapless Muslims in
Guzarat. All forms of weapons were use including
electrocution. But later, the investigators confirmed
that Sabarmati express train caught accidental fire
and not a sabotage by the Muslims.

While many regard India as the largest democracy,
I beg to decline; or at least a half-truth. Democracy
can not approve such brutal atrocities while the
authority itself abetted the crime.

Everyone must admit that it is not the medieval period.
At the dawn of 21s century, one can not expect such
a gruesome killing of an innocent life. RIP Meenakshi !!

India has had muslim presidents, muslim cricket captain (despite him being a sell out). They are secular enough despite the Hindu-muslim tensions across the country. Our muslim neighbours (pakistan0 have not exactly created a good impression of themselves. It is not like muslims are welcome in USA without suspicion. One guy i know got his visa rejected just because his name was Mohammad. All over the world they have earned bad name thanks to irrational religious fanaticism.

When you try to generalize, can i generalize USA based on zimmerman case or the doctors who tortured an autistic kid 31 times in a single day?
05:37 PM on 04/21/2012
ah... get off your soapbox. You obviously are from India. However you shake and bake it, human life has less value in your beautiful country. It is the truth and I have heard it repeatedly from folks from India. Of course we have crime problems in the US and way too much, but our culture tends to value individual worth a bit more.
06:06 PM on 04/21/2012
If the criminals go scot free you can say life is not valued in INdia. They were arrested. Basically it is a crime. This is cold-hearted, planned crime. Evil exists everywhere not just one country. Why did Timothy Mcveigh not value human life as much as you value? Criminals dont value lives be it is India or America or canada or France or Pakistan anywhere.
10:38 PM on 04/21/2012
Human life isn't valued in the U.S. either.
