Dayan Viciedo Catches Kid Running On Field During White Sox-Orioles Game (VIDEO)

Kid White Sox
A small boy runs onto the field during the White Sox-Orioles game.

Baltimore had Batman. Chicago had... a small boy.

In the top of the seventh inning of the Orioles' 5-2 win over the White Sox on Thursday, a young kid somehow bypassed security and ran onto the field. Sprinting across the outfield with a glove in hand, the boy ran in the direction of left fielder Dayan Viciedo, who lightly jogged along with him until he stopped the scamper by scooping the kid up.

Viciedo then walked over toward the foul line and handed the boy over to security.

"My first reaction was just to grab him," Viciedo told the Chicago-Tribune through an interpreter. "What I was thinking was that I hoped a ball doesn't hit him, so that is why I instinctively went to grab him."

The boy was returned to an adult and the two were ejected, per league rules.

Check out the fan video above and scroll down to watch the clip from the White Sox broadcast.

I'm glad Viciedo didn't bodyslam the young boy. If it had been an adult I think that might have been the reception he would have recieved..and deserved. Did the kid to this because his father encouraged him? If so, that's just plain bad parenting.

I like how Dad sent the other kid down to the fence to pick up his brother. "No officer, I don't know who these kids are. eject 'em!"

Not surprising that a dad who would let (or encourage) his kid to run on the field would also be a coward.

Now there's a budding Sox fan. In 15 years, he and dad will be on the field wailing on the first base umpire.

If I saw the opportunity I would have egged my kid on during a time out or a batter change. Call me a bad parent but you never forget moments like that and to say that I was that kid would be priceless for him. If you have a safe opportunity to do it why not?
07:58 PM on 04/21/2012
Why not? How about if every kid did it. Why restrict it to kids? Everybody who feels like it should run on the field.

Encouraging a kid to do something unsafe (even if you think it's safe), ignore rules and inconvenience the people playing the game and the thousands watching it just so that you can have a "priceless memory" is selfish.

Yes, if you did that, I would call you a bad parent.

"Bad parent?" Maybe.

Ass-hat and numb-skull? Definitely.

Some of the comments here are crazy. Maybe the parents had nothing to do with the idea, maybe running onto the field was the child's idea. He was at the ball park with his glove, excited and close to the action. Does no one remember being a kid, a kid who loves baseball, the smell of the park the whole thing and given that one chance to be on the field to "show what you can do" may have been his imaginative attempt to be in the 'show'. Good grief, have we lost so much innocence and imagination that we can only look for the negative? Negative + negative just = more negative. After saying all that, I enjoyed watching the video captured by fan and I'm glad it was posted, it added another smile to my day.

I agree. Fatty's have a hard time chasing people. The faster they can catch someone, the faster they can get back to living above the law.

I flew to meet my little brother and when his daughter saw me getting off the plane she bolted past security right to me! No one could catch her, she juked all of them! I couldn't help but laugh and was ready to protect her, but luckily my brother had on his Air Force uniform so they let it slide, although they weren't happy. Such an awesome memory.
