Prom Updos: 6 Steps To The Most-Requested Hairstyle (VIDEO)

One of my fondest memories from senior prom is getting ready with my girls. We took turns doing each other's makeup, hair and zipping up dresses. After the four-hour long process, I felt so much more at ease with my braided updo then I probably would have if I left it up to my hairstylist. I can't think of a better reason why prom hair can't be a DIY affair.

In the video above, Israeli hairdresser Valery Joseph (whose clientele include Madonna, Lady Gaga, Ivanka Trump and Helena Christensen) guides one lucky girl through his six steps to a beautiful updo. Instead of a stiff, slicked-back hairstyle, texture is created by twisting the hair on one side and braiding the opposite. And as Joseph points out, a flower is the perfect accessory to not only accentuate the look but to also conceal bobby pins.

What do you think about this prom hairstyle? It can also be worn at a wedding or spring party.

Meanwhile, guess what teens are wearing to prom this season? Hint: the look is way more comfortable than skintight dresses.
