Drew Friedman's 'My Way' (PHOTOS)

Drew Friedman's Comic Gold

Drew Friedman's illustrations and cartoons are known for their dead-on depictions of celebrities, comedians, and circus performers. In a recent interview with "Ink," the comic artist says, "I'm sort of drawn to the people who nobody else notices." Take a look back at his best comic moments with his upcoming exhibition, titled, "My Way."

Friedman became known for his "stippling" technique, in which many small dots are used to yield a photorealistic effect. This sharp accuracy when combined with caricatured portrayals of pop culture icons make for biting satire that is as fun to look at as it is to laugh at. He perfectly sums up Woody Allen's paranoid gulp, Sid Vicious' snarl, and Anthony Weiner's cocky grin, crafting realistic portraits with a perfect punchline. According to Scott Eder Gallery, Kurt Vonnegut compared Friedman to Francisco Goya, who relayed the events of his time through a healthy serving of commentary.

The exhibition at Scott Eder Gallery features a look back at Friedman's prolific works, from his black-and-white drawings to his more recent watercolors. It will show from April 27 to May 31 in Brooklyn.
