An English man named Brian Watson killed a large rat his granddaughter's boyfriend found while cutting grass, Sky News reports.
"I heard him shouting there was a large rat," Watson told Sky News. "I came running round the corner. I managed to grab some wood on the way ... it wasn't very fast. I've never seen a rat as big in my life before."
Some believe the animal was actually a coypu, or a South African rodent known as a "river rat," the Daily Mail reports.
Now, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) is investigating the killing, urging those with further knowledge of the incident to come forward.
"We would urge anyone with more information about this incident to contact our cruelty line ... we will look into it further," a spokesperson for the organization told the Daily Mail.
Rat or coypu, Watson's ordeal harks back to the terrifying photo of an alleged giant rat found in a Bronx, New York, Foot Locker that went viral after being posted on Twitter.
