Glenn Beck

Lemon Grove, CA Patch:

Glenn Beck on Sunday urged America’s clergy to speak out politically from the pulpit even if it means breaking the law and losing their jobs.

“Preachers, stand up! … The church is the key to keeping this ship … going the right way, using the stars and the heavens to navigate by,” Beck said at the second of two appearances at Skyline Church that was webcast via its website. “If you don’t stand up, we lose.”

Wow to all of you liberals screaming about separation of church and state, claiming that theses churches should lose their tax exempt status over this, I have one question for you. Where were you when your dear leader Nancy Pelosi instructed the Catholic priests how to preach from their pulpits, about immigration? http://youtu.be/kpdbk-CzZ48 Most of you were silent because, you believe what she was saying, because she is from your party. I guess it is ok, to blur the line between church and state if you are preaching to the choir.

Glenn--wrong again. A member of the IRS should be sitting in the first pew of every chuch in this country.

Deuteronomy 14:28-29
At the end of every third year bring the tithe of all your crops and store it in the nearest town. Give it to the Levites, who have no inheritance among you, as well as to the foreigners living among you, the orphans, and the widows in you towns, so they can eat and be satisfied. Then the Lord your God will bless you in all your work.

Proverbs 14:31
Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but those who help the poor honor him.

James 2: 5-9
Listen to me dear brothers and sisters, Hasn’t God Chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith? Aren’t they the ones who will inherit the Kingdom God promised to those who love him? And yet, you insult the poor man! Isn’t it the rich who oppress you and drag you into court? Aren’t they the ones who slander Jesus Christ, whose noble name you bear?
Yes indeed, it is good when you truly obey our Lord’s royal command found in the Scriptures: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you pay special attention to the rich, you are committing a sin, for you are guilty of breaking the law.

Yes! Then they lose their tax-exempt status and help balance the budget!

Glenn Beck is using religion and fear to build his career. This year's big gimmick is his laughable "Restoring Love" Amway-style meeting in Texas this summer. Beck ridicules unfortunate people on the air for sport/ratings in a mean and cruel manner (Sandy McMillin of Eugene OR is a good example) and then has the brass balls to portray himself os a messiah of love. It's disgusting.

"The church is the key to keeping this ship … going the right way," So he thinks it's currently going the right way. I'll assume he means for the 1%.

It's a shame that the IRS wouldn't have the intestinal fortitude to revoke the tax-free status churches get but don't deserve.

The tax free status of churches was started back when the preacher of the local town got support form his neighbors and congregation in the form of chickens (that sounds strangely familial) produce and home cooked meals. They did not have the financial resources to pay monetary taxes, for , they did not receive a salary but lived off the largess of the community. They were more interested in saving souls than saving money.
Today, so called Men of god are wealthy beyond imagination. Before a newly graduated minister accepts a position to preach and serve in a church... that church must first prove that they can pay his starting wage that ranges anywhere to $25K to $100K per year.

I agree, it is way past time for the multimillionaire evangelists to start paying taxes.

How much do you want to bet that if that does become law... every evangelical preacher in the country will be opening banking accounts in the Cayman Islands? Just a hunch.

Spot on. I think the government should make separation total. Stop allowing church construction bypassing local ordinances. There are thousands of examples of Churches not meeting building requirements like the number of toilets required, the amount of off-street parking available, The size and height of them and the height of, and lighting of the crosses on top. Recently I saw a McDonald's ordered to make the Golden Arches sign on a new restaurant no more than eight metres high in a suburban setting because it would be an eyesore but less than one hundred metres away on the same street a church has a neon cross over five metres high atop a twenty plus metre spire that is visible at night from several kilometres away. I called the City Council building code people and was told unofficially that they never force churches to meet the standards because they don't want to deal with the potential complaints.
There should also be a requirement to tell parishioners where their donations are going. a recent study found that most contributors believed most of their money went to charity when very little of it does, varying massively depending on the church involved.

Golly.... Please do as the Glen-ster demands! That way we can finally start taxing the churches. That way you will no longer get to hide behind those exemptions. Free speech does have a cost associated with it. Speak right up and be noticed - then pay.... it is part of that "render unto Caesar..." stuff. Remember?
