'Brave' Trailer: Pixar Unveils Long Look At Future Blockbuster

WATCH: Family Is King In New 'Brave' Trailer

"Brave" does something that no Pixar movie has done before: put a female character front and center.

Princess Merida in "Brave" (voiced by "Boardwalk Empire" scene stealer Kelly Macdonald) is unlike normal Disney princesses: she's got a lilting Scottish accent, is Katniss Everdeen-y with a bow and arrow, and has no interest in finding Prince Charming -- unless Prince Charming is the key to unlocking a "beastly curse" that threatens her kingdom.

Disney has released a couple of trailers for "Brave" thus far, but this latest offering details more of the film's central emotional conflict between Merida and her mother (voiced by Emma Thompson). It also highlights some of Pixar's lush animation, while simultaneously using title cards to remind you that the animation juggernaut is responsible for "WALL*E," "Toy Story 3" and "Up." (No mention of "Cars 2"? Wonder why!)

Due in theaters on June 22, expect "Brave" to be one of the biggest hits of the summer. Watch the trailer above; head over to Apple to check it out in HD.

Correction: An earlier version of this post identified Merida as Irish; she's actually Scottish.
