Jessica Chastain In 'Iron Man 3'? Actress In Talks For Marvel Role

Jessica Chastain May Join Marvel Universe

Jessica Chastain: from It Girl to Iron Man? Perhaps! The Oscar nominee -- who appeared in no less than seven feature films in 2011 -- is in talks to join the hilariously massive cast of "Iron Man 3." Per Deadline.com, Chastain would play a "sexy scientist" in the new film. (THR also confirms her involvement.)

This isn't the first time Chastain flirted with a blockbuster release; she was cast opposite Tom Cruise in "Oblivion," a space-set film that sounds a little bit like a live-action "WALL*E" (in a post-apocalyptic future, a banished soldier fixes battleships on the remains of what used to be Earth). That picture never came into focus for Chastain because of scheduling conflicts, but she's hardly hurting for more work: Chastain is co-starring in Kathryn Bigelow's Osama Bin Laden movie "Zero Dark Thirty," the bootlegging drama "Lawless," Terrence Malick's next movie, and the horror film "Mama."

As for "Iron Man 3," the cast is officially ridiculous. In addition to veteran franchise players Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, the film is set to co-star Ben Kingsley and Guy Pearce. There also might be another major villain lined up, not to mention whatever Marvel-universe feature players make appearances as well (paging Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders). Shane Black directs "Iron Man 3," which is scheduled for release next summer.
