Tickets for the 2012 edition of the Ravinia summer concert season on Chicago's North Shore go on sale Thursday for the general public.

And while this year's lineup, in some ways, doesn't have too many surprises -- yes, the BoDeans are back -- there are still a number of other acts worth penciling in your calendar for a short little road trip out of the city to Highland Park.

On June 22, jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon will pay tribute to the legendary Lena Horne. The very next evening, author Garrison Keillor will bring his live "A Prairie Home Companion" show to the Ravinia stage. On July 22, Seal and Macy Gray share an impressive double bill. And on September 1, "rock and soul" pioneers Hall and Oates will play one of the final weekends of the ground's summer festival season.

To buy tickets to a Ravinia show, log onto the venue's website or use a newly-developed app to not only buy tickets but also connect with fellow Ravinia-bound pals. Lawn tickets for many shows are a steal at approximately $20 and, of course, bringing picnic fixings along is encouraged.
