America’s ballooning childhood obesity epidemic has become an urgent problem and a cause célèbre for everyone from Michelle Obama to Ellen DeGeneres. Now Katie Couric...
A study of the families of 150 preschoolers suggests that parents of healthy-weight and overweight preschoolers are generally well aware of dietary risk factors that...
Nobody in their right mind would advocate a steady diet of cheap cheese, soya oil, HFCS, and white flour avec lots of salt. Stil, this is a basic part of the American diet especially when it comes to children who, by the way, learned their bad eating habits from their parents. Fruits and vegetables are often just an afterthought, including exercise and going out in the sun (to get vitamin D3 which is a known protective factor against all major diseases including obesity and diabetes II). So what's wrong with this picture? Americans are dummies when it comes to understanding the fundamentals of good health. Yesterday I had a pizza heaped up with all kinds of fresh vegetables sans cheese and cheap soya oil. It was delicious.

Well kids love pizza and will eat it no matter where and who serves it. Some pizza is good for you like the flat crusted vegetable and such.
My relatives cooked vegetables in bacon greese. None of us were fat in the 60s and 70s.

Well then that settles it let's give these corporations more tax cuts because not only are they job creators but food creators also. Don't even think about portion control either because that sounds like big government and socialism which would be a slippery slope towards the complete loss of freedom.
YIKES!!!

I would like to recommend the free NAAFA Child Advocacy ToolkitSM (CATK) and other written guidelines/resources to assist you looking at programs.
A Yale Rudd Center report reviewed existing research on weight stigma in children and adolescents, with attention to the nature and extent of weight bias toward obese youths and to the primary sources of stigma in their lives, including peers, educators, and parents. As a result of weight bias and discrimination, obese children suffer psychological, social, and health-related consequences. http://www.yaleruddcenter.org/resources/upload/docs/what/bias/StigmaObesityChildrensHealth.pdf
The NAAFA Child Advocacy Toolkit shows how Health At Every Size® takes the focus off weight and directs it to healthful eating and enjoyable movement. It addresses the bullying, building positive self-image and eliminating stigmatization of large children. The CATK lists resources available to parents, educators or caregivers for educational materials, curriculum and programming that is beneficial for all children. It can be found at: http://issuu.com/naafa/docs/naafa_childadvocacy2011combined_v04?viewMode=magazine&mode=embed

Its not really a secret that pizza isn't a vegetable and that higher (bad) fats and sugars aren't good for anyone in quantity (moderation is always key). Now, show me 1 primary or secondary schooler who understands that concept. We need to cut back on these things offered in schools....what's so difficult to understand?

Is pizza on the menu every day of the week? Once a week? Once every two weeks? If not daily, then what the heck is the big deal about pizza? Much easier to understand the soda fight - we all should know by now that too much soda - or too much of anything, for that matter - is not good for us or the kids.
Make the pizza dough with whole wheat flour - low-fat cheese - throw some tomatoes and bell peppers on it - use turkey or chicken instead of pepperoni - is that so hard? Served even once a week it is not going to do that much harm if made with wholesome ingredients.

You're talking socialism! I mean corporations have the right to exploit our nation's youth - that's capitalism which our country is based on (Oops, it wasn't based on capitalism - Alexander Hamilton, the father of American economics, never heard of capitalism). ;)

Nobody believes this bunk you continue to perpetuate, .. that "most American" believe our country was founded on capitalism.
No, .. most American's had some American history from K through 12, and concluded that this country was founded on ideas, .. like "self-evident" truths "that all men are created equal, endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights," like "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness," and other core principles.
So what's your point?

Put 'em on farms? You're talking socialism pilgrim. The earliest forms of socialism in the US were communitarian farms. It is the Capitalists who hate our children and want to keep the sick.
