John McCain: Obama Playing Politics With Anniversary Of Bin Laden's Death

McCain Accuses Obama Of Playing Politics With Bin Laden Death

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who lost the 2008 presidential election to Barack Obama, harshly criticized him for politicizing the death of Osama bin Laden, which he called the "height of hypocrisy."

"Shame on Barack Obama for diminishing the memory of September 11th and the killing of Osama bin Laden by turning it into a cheap political attack ad. This is the same President who once criticized Hillary Clinton for invoking bin Laden 'to score political points,'" he said in a statement.

"The Obama campaign asks whether Mitt Romney would have made that decision," he added. "Of course they want to focus on this one tactical decision because the other decisions this President has made have harmed our national security."

McCain is referring to a web ad narrated by former President Bill Clinton touting Obama's decisiveness in the decision to move forward with the bin Laden raid. The ad questions Mitt Romney's foreign policy credentials, referring to a 2008 quote of the former Massachusetts governor, saying, "It's not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person."

The Obama campaign has sought to bolster the president's foreign policy experience. Vice President Joe Biden has praised the May 2011 raid as the most "audacious plan" in 500 years. Biden also said Thursday that the president has a "big stick," after quoting President Teddy Roosevelt's famous quote to "speak softly and carry a big stick."
