Funny thing I noticed, is that groups, so called communities, worship a God that is only as smart or as ignorant as they are. They are compassionate in nature or vicious in nature, depending on who is leading them. Since you have an Old Testament and a New Testament, it really makes it easy to be either. The idea of a universal God seems ridiculous to me since there are hundreds of variations of one God with untold numbers of David Koresh type leaders. Seems that the Christo-sadism leaders are becoming all the rage lately.

Only one of them is preaching the "truth"...all the rest are preaching falsehood. On the other hand...perhaps none of them are preaching the "truth". Maybe there is no ultimate "truth" and everyone's just doing the best they can. Whatever "truth" there may.be...is it really necessary to believe in supernatural beings, places, or events...in order to access this "truth" ? There's never been any factual proof that any such beings, places. or events exist. Perhaps using simple reason...will access even more "truth". It doesn't take the invocation of supernatural beings to be kind to your neighbors, not be a thief, not to be a bully. All it takes...is reason. I think that reason will be a far better guide to 21st century living...than ancient myth and superstition...(sigh)

I mention that we don't all look alike and use the term Judaism, because people mistake our religion AS a race, a breed, an ethnicity.
Learning about religious diversity is ALSO learning about Atheism. It's the 'religion' of not having one. They have views.There are some Atheists who trash religion as a whole, and there are some who aren't into religion themselves and could care less whether you have one as long as you don't force yours on them thinking they're 'broken'. Why is Atheism not included in 52 Weeks of Worship Project? Because this diversity is limited only to faith. Non faith seems to be a no-no. Atheists have views! Atheists have beliefs! Diversity in learning that you're not 'broken' by having a non faith isn't studied, but it doesn't mean that Atheists should be ignored. A 'faith' of no faith. But no one wants THAT much diversity to learn about.

Well that's all I have to say. And oh! I don't want to get any messages about my "rants". I don't make anyone read me, or "no one really cares what you think." That's also a part of diversity I practice. I voice opinion because I care what I think.

I have no problem dialoguing with atheists...or anyone, really, about what they believe and why. On my blog, www.my52wow.com, I have provided stories and perspectives about atheists, as well as those who practice various faiths. During the first 52 weeks of the project, however, my commitment was to be present in a different place of worship every week. By definition, at least according to my knowledge, atheists do not typically gather in a place of worship to discuss their views. That is why you don't hear me mention atheists in the listing of the different *places of worship* I visited in the first 52 weeks of my project. I am in year 3 of the project now, and am open to talking to anyone about their beliefs, time permitting.

That's good. Ahhh. Now I get that you were just doing the faith part. Very nice to know on your blog you got the prospective of Atheists. No, of course not Atheists don't have a house of worship. I just thought some get together in a group and talk about stuff somewhere like in a park or maybe an Atheist website of views. How long does this project last? I wonder what the faith of American Indians is. Do they have religion that has a name that's not Christianity? That would be cool to know since I love anything American Indian. I'm glad we can discuss these things as friends, my52wow. Sorry if you thought I was trying to make an enemy of you. Wonder what cool religions any extra terrestrials may have. I don't know if you've ever seen Avatar, but the Na'vi have this cool Tree of Souls where prayers can be given and sometimes answered. They're really into the nature stuff. They've got a goddess called Eywa, and they "see you" by looking into your soul so to speak. Fascinating.

Here's some more facts about Judaism. We do NOT all look a certain way. I'm sick of the stereotype that we all have big noses. Not all Jews avoid pork. I love it. Just like everyone else, not all Jews like each other. Some Jews will use the insulting Yiddish term for those who are Gentile. I would NEVER use that. We're not all rich. We don't all own everything, and we're not all the stereotype doctor, lawyer, accountant.

Why do I mention these things in my two posts? Because when you attempt to learn diversity in religions, it's about MORE than the religion. We're not all chained in Temple. It's how we're regarded by most. It's the stereotypes of us. It's the denial that there are still people who despise us who've never met us based on false information. Learning diversity is also learning that if you're delving into a religion, you might have that person of whichever religion trying to teach you. If you get defensive, if you tell us "give her a break" because we're trying to inform, then no, you've learned nothing about diversity. Jew or Gentile, learning about anothers' religion, doesn't make you an expert on them. We have something to offer. Learn it all, not just selective bites.

She either does not understand that Christianity is a personal relationship or fails to mention it. Jesus despised religion and he certainly will not be found in man made religion. What she was searching for could have been easily found in him if she would draw closer to him, not in the many man made religions of the world.

The project smacks of a publicity stunt and a book deal. When one begins with a faulty premise what follows is wasted time unless or until one corrects the faulty premise. Likewise, all that 'looking out' for the answer instead of looking in only serves to slather all one sees with one's own prejudices.
One week with a good science text would have saved her the rest of the year.

Hi Mr. Schmoe-

This was not, for me, a publicity stunt.

For me, it was a healing journey - that took place after a very challenging personal year, where I experience a great deal of death and loss.

And yes, I did write a book - because as I went through my experience, I realized that others could learn from my experiences, and the lessons that I learned. I have spoken to and received communication from many who confirm this, and that has been meaningful to me.

And to address your question about "looking out"vs "looking in"--there was a great deal of introspection that accompanied this project, as you might imagine after you experience death and loss. But the time I spent in all the different places of worship that I visited changed my life.

I respect your right to think differently.

She is searching for something that only Jesus Christ can give. He is the only one who can fill the void in her heart and soul. And there must be a void or she would'nt be looking and searching.It cannot be done through "religion" it can be done only through a "Personal Relationship" with Jesus Christ. It is by faith through grace alone that one receives the "Gift of God".

Is that what the scriptures say? It needs to be read in context. God allowed His only son to be crucified, to die a brutal, awful, painful death so the rest of us could be saved, a son who did absolutely nothing to deserve that. Now, do you really think God thinks as petty and small as we do? Do you really think God will send people to hell because you didn't dot your i's or cross your t's? We tend to think of God as small like us. He is much bigger than any of us can imagine.

Faith is what all of us live by every day! We have faith that we will wake up to a new day and the sun will shine, or that the rain will fall again to replenish us and our crops so that we will have food to eat. We have faith in our beloved parents or a teacher or a close relative. We have faith in our close friends and/or a loving spouse. We have faith in the people we hire to work at our business....faith that they will do their job and contribute to our company, and that they won't rob us…..or else we wouldn't have hired them. While driving on streets and expressways we have faith in the people all around us, faith that they will drive safely, to stay in the lanes, follow the traffic rules and not crash into us (of course sometimes there are accidents). We have faith in things not seen with our eyes, such as the tiny bacteria and white blood cells that live inside our bodies….we have faith that when we are cut or scraped they will help heal us....(continued

God made us from our beginnings to trust and have faith……even in things we cannot see with our eyes. We have faith that God lives and hears us….He is not always seen with our eyes but proof of his existence is here in all he has created, including us. This was far from a waste of time for me, although I respect your right to think that it was. It did good for me, and I experienced the kindness of strangers everywhere I went. It helped me to heal from a very personally challenging year the year prior to My 52 Weeks of Worship, where I experienced a great deal of death and loss in my family. In telling the story, many have shared that my story has helped them as well.
