John Riebesel
US Airways employees had to help two Yavapai County sheriff's deputies detain 22-year-old John Riebesel, who attempted to escape custody at Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport.

PHOENIX -- Authorities say a prisoner is back in custody after he was caught by airline workers while trying to escape at Phoenix's airport.

Police say 22-year-old John Riebesel was being extradited from Detroit when he managed to get away from two Yavapai County sheriff's deputies at Sky Harbor International Airport Thursday evening.

Other US Airways employees came to the aid of the first and detained him until police arrived.

The station says that he somehow removed an ankle bracelet that officers could have used to give him an electrical shock.

Authorities say Riebesel is accused of drug violations Yavapai County, and is now facing escape and other charges in Maricopa County.

I hope this disobeident Child is never allowed to wear the uniform of his country again after what he's done! He's an immature disgrace! Probably a trouble maker in school and someone suggested the Service to get rid of him with the ruse of it making him "settle down". These are the Kids we have fighting for us! Scared? We should be.

Disobeident child? He is 22 years old. How about getting this man help?! You are a Mom and a Grandma? What if this was your child or grandchild. So many times people are quick to judge instead of getting to the root of the problem and finding him some help. Nice person???? It makes me wonder how a nice person can be posting rude comments on the internet they know nothing about. He was obviously scared and fear got the best of him and made a bad judgement call. If you read the articles and watched the videos you would see he is not a violet person. He never hurt or attempted to hurt anyone. Only GOD knows what this "child" has gone through and how he got to where he is.It's not your place to judge him! Only GOD can.

Nope. Not turture. Remote control. They were gonna walk him up behind one of our congressmen and hit the "shock" button. The electric shock would have caused his leg to shoot out, probably nailing on the of the congressmen right on the keester.

Hey, it could happen....

Well, it takes an incident to make a change in prisoner handling. On the next escort, he will certainly be chained with a black box on his ankle chains.

Was this prisoner properly shackled for transport? Relying on an ankle bracelet is not good enough. Had he grabbed someone and then had to be shocked the victim would also have suffered the same shock. Prisoners out in public need to be hand and ankle shackled and the shock device should be worn on the neck in plain view to make sure the prisoner does not remove it.

Knowing this outlet's penchant for enticing the readership of mundane stories by sensationalizing the headline I fully expected out of curiosity to find yesterday's story about the escaped puppy that caused flights to be delayed retagged
05:11 AM on 04/29/2012
Sorry. The cops shot the puppy for being a extreme safety risk to the officers. Besides it was a cool moving target.

He is no "Barefoot Bandit" (Colton Harris-Moore).
11:33 AM on 04/27/2012
Colton, from all accounts was feral and seemed to have that animal like ability to elude capture. He's where he belongs now.
12:38 PM on 04/27/2012
How do you know he's where he belongs now ... he hasn't been convicted - so far charged and extradited ... I'd try to escape too if I was accused of any crime in Yavapai or Maricopa much less "drug charges" ....
