Jay Leno

Comedian Jay Leno is 62!

Leno has been dominating late night television for two decades, In 1992, he became the host of NBC’s “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.” The show, originally hosted by Johnny Carson, featured Leno as a guest host from 1987 until 1992, the year he took over.

In the fall of 2009, Leno launched a talk show in primetime ("The Jay Leno Show"), which aired weeknights at 10:00 p.m. EST on NBC. It was canceled in January 2010, and Leno returned to host The Tonight Show shortly thereafter, resulting in the controversial ouster of Conan O'Brien.

Leno’s career began with stand-up comedy, making occasional appearances on television shows like “The Drew Carey Show” and movies like “American Hot Wax.” The comedian still performs standup comedy shows.

Aside from being a prominent face on late night television, Leno’s famous hobby is car collecting. The comedian/car aficionado has his own internet car show, “Jay Leno’s Garage” where he features various collectible cars.

The late night host isn’t concerned if anyone finds him funny or not.

“Some people think you’re funny; some people do not,” Leno told Forbes in 2012. “And you really can’t argue with the people who don’t; you just have to accept it.”

is it just me or is Jay Leno actually not funny ? Not now or back then ... nothing really clever or meaningful ... no pacing or style ..... ( Andy Kaufman was better and he was pretty bad ) He's so lucky he landed the Tonight show gig . I do hear that hes a nice guy though and that will take you far in todays world .. Happy birthday

Okay, I got a few chuckles from that First Appearance tape but basically it was pretty lame. If I was betting on his career back then, no way would I have thought he'd be replacing Carson a few years later. Of course, I'll be the first to admit he's gotten a lot funnier through the years.

Letterman is turning over in his grave... What? Letterman is alive and has a late night show on CBS? Wow! I can't believe how much sleep I've been getting since Johnny Carson screwed-up and passed the Tonight Show on to the least funny guy in the world.

When I opened my mailbox not a half hour ago, I found 11 notices of replies to my posts, and all the replies were from YOU, and most of the posts you attacked me about were not even addressed to you. So, who's the real target for your rudeness, Jay Leno, or someone who appreciates non-juvenile comedy, like me?

I have not watched Leno since that fiasco with Conan. It's Conan all the way now. He's younger, hipper, better looking and FUNNIER.

You mean when Conan demanded that NBC fire Jay or he would go to another network?
Clearly, Jay is FUNNIER, smarter, harder-working, and HAS A CONSCIENCE!

No, actually, Conan simply said that he wanted to go to another network. He didn't even care to replace Jay. He just originally intended to leave. It was NBC who came up with the idea to replace Jay. I've read a good amount of your comments, and you lie a lot.

Wow, what a bunch of "snarky" people!

Happy Birthday Jay, you are one of the few talk show Hosts that has remained non-partisan. I appreciate you ribbing both sides. Best wishes.

Wow, the man was professionally backstabbed twice by supposed friends(Letterman and O'Brien), and you seem to want to be third! I understand if you don't find Jay funny, even he understands that, but must you spew such venom at him? You give a bad name to all your fellow Conan fans.

lol Is that a joke? Because it made me laugh pretty hard. Jay is not the one who was backstabbed. I don't know where you got your info (Huffpost?) but it's totally wrong. It was actually the Leno that stabbed the other two in the back. He's even done some pretty terrible things to people who worked for him. You should read up a bit more on the subject, before you attempt to form an opinion on it.

I'm guessing that back then, his auto collection only consisted of one rusty VW micro-bus. He's come a long way since then.

Well, he got his job by doing something Letterman and O'Brien never bothered to try while vying for Carson's chair. It's called WORKING, rehearsing, touring, the kind of stuff that makes a good comedian a better one. Letterman simply sat back in the late 80's/early 90's bragging to everyone that he was going to be the next Tonight Show host, while Jay went out and did promotions for others at NBC, who would support him when the time came. O'Brien, on the other hand, simply went to the network and demanded he be given the job, or he was going to another network. Strange how as soon as this bad former SNL writer(he's not even a professional comedian!) took over, Tonight plunged from 1st to 4th in the Nielsen ratings, which prompted NBC to fire him and repair the mistake they made by caving to blackmail.
Does that explain it? Most people think Jay is funny, even if you don't. The others don't care if they were or not, they simply wanted to be handed the job, not EARN it.
