Chicago Police Shoot Robbery Suspects, 1 Fatally, In Dramatic Incident

Chicago police early Monday shot three men suspected in the attempted robbery of a electronics store in the city's Little Village neighborhood.

The incident took place at 2:30 a.m. Monday, when police responded to a robbery at Mike's Electronics, located near the intersection of 25th Street and Western Avenue. According to ABC Chicago, police told the three unarmed suspects to surrender..

The suspects instead jumped into a van parked inside the store, which reportedly belonged to the store's owner, and drove away, blasting through a metal fence around the garage, hitting and injuring a police officer and sideswiping a police SUV.

"These guys thought they were in a movie," Pat Camden, Chicago Fraternal Order of Police spokesman told NBC.

Police who had surrounded the building fired shots into the fleeing van, fatally shooting one of the men and injuring the two others, CBS Chicago reports. The police officer injured by the van is recovering and in good condition.

The Independent Police Review Authority is currently investigating the shooting.
