WEST ALLIS, Wis. — A Wisconsin woman and her adult son were killed in separate accidents just hours apart in a Milwaukee suburb.

West Allis police say 45-year-old Mary Moore was struck and killed while lying in the street about 1 a.m. Sunday. The driver that hit Moore fled from the scene.

Then, Moore's 22-year-old son, Thomas Olson, died in a car crash as he rushed to the hospital to see his mother. Olson was a passenger in a car that struck three parked cars and overturned about 5:30 a.m. The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

West Allis Deputy Chief Charles Padgett says Moore had been drinking before she was hit, but it's not clear how much. An autopsy was expected to be done Monday.

How horrible. I also suspect alcohol was a factor in Mary Moore's death. It's the only way I can see someone lying in the road at 1 AM.

I'm sure, though, that if she knew her actions would cost her son his life, she would NOT have been on that roadway.

My heart goes out to their survivors.

Another example of why alcohol should be illegal.

Supply and demand. Unfortunately, that's why Prohibition failed.

How sad for the family.

the take away lesson in all this is do not lay in the streets and do not drive drunk.

Um did that mean she lay dieing in her driveway? And where did the comments below come from that she was drunk? Where in the article did it say that. Very vague. And strange.

The very last sentence of the article...

"West Allis Deputy Chief Charles Padgett says Moore had been drinking before she was hit, but it's not clear how much."

She may have stumbled into the street and fallen, or even passed out there.

Maybe people are jumping to conclusions here?

With all respect to Deputy Chief Charles Padgett, because he might know more than is reported in this HP version of the story, before I went about trashing this people, I'd want to have more information. For example, were there witnesses to her drinking in a bar, or, otherwise, someone who saw her while she was still alive who shared that information with him? Did her dead body wreak from alcohol?

'Cause let's face it, it must be difficult to near impossible to administer a breathyzer test to a dead person. Usually we wait until there is an autopsy to determine these things.

If there were no eye witnesses or hard evidence, there remains the possibility that the woman was a diabetic, let's say. Or had a seizure. There are a lot of medical conditions other than being drunk that can cause a person to fall down in the street.

And maybe her son was a good kid, too.

I mean, we just don't really know enough, do we? And after all, the story was supposed to be about the shock value of the hand of fate striking a family in such an unusual way. It wasn't supposed to set them up for a public trashing. Suppose those wielding their inner prosecutorial powers are wrong and there are surviving children or family? How would they feel reading these indictments of their loved ones, especially at a time of bereavement?

So basically, she indirectly caused her son's death because she was being stupid. Good going "mom".

What are the odds of this? Of course laying in the road and possible alcohol increasing things exponentially...possibly.

While these two dumbasses were dying, I wonder how many dumbasses were being born?

Um...why was the mother laying down on the street? Her son gets a drunk driver to get him to the hospital to see her? Sounds like a healthy family there.

That's because it's never happened. Is it even possible to get so stoned you plow into parked cars?

Well I certainly don't condone impaired driving and considering the phenomenon of "head rushes" it is certainly possible, but I don't think it's common place or even likely. That said, it never happened to me in my younger days when I was doing "serious" research. ;)

Actually, that comment wasn't intended for this article. It was, originally, posted to the 'Father Attempts To Sacrifice Son In Cemetery' article, but the comment didn't survive long before it was taken down. I call it 'Comment Switching.' It's a thing I like to do in order to entertain myself and, at the same time, prove a point. It's more noticeable when a comment of mine doesn't seem to pertain to the story in any way whatsoever; Those are the really good ones.

I think that this comment is more inappropriate here than it was at the other story.

Just post your comment on another story whenever you have similar issues. We'll make a game out of it. I might reply to your comment by guessing what article it was, originally, meant for.

Oh, btw, Thx for favoring this comment..
