Watch out yellow! The Big Apple's got a new color in town.
The new Five Boro Taxi was unveiled Sunday, and its official new color is called 'apple green'.
18,000 permits will be given to livery cab companies so that they can legally pick up New Yorkers off the streets in the outer boroughs. Before the law allowing such street pickups was passed, only yellow cabs could pick up passengers off the street.
TLC commissioner David Yassky defended the bold color choice Sunday. “Apple green is very fitting for the new Boro Taxis. It’s pleasing to the eye, easy to see from a distance and blends well with the urban landscape.”
These bright neon cabs will hit the streets in June.
