Danae Rodriguez, Minnesota Teen, Takes Dad To Prom After Saving His Life (PHOTO)

The Huffington Post  |  By Posted: 05/ 1/2012 4:37 pm

Danae Rodriguez had a very special prom date: her dad.

In December, the Minnesota teen and her family were in a car accident that left her father, Tim Ebert, seriously injured, the Fergus Falls Journal reports.

Rodriguez managed to help her father before emergency crews arrived at the scene, and as Ebert recovered over the next few months, he grew closer with the daughter who helped save his life.

The two recently attended the Fergus Falls prom together -- Rodriguez in a shimmery gown and dad in a dapper tux.

While the pair enjoyed the night in Minnesota, a teen in West Virginia was also able to attend prom after overcoming her own medical obstacles.

Victoria Chakwin was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis at age 11. Just a few months ago, the 17-year-old received a life-saving lung transplant just in time to recover and attend the dance.

To Chakwin, attending prom was something she wasn't always sure she'd be able to do.

Nevertheless, "[It] was something that was always in the back of my mind,"Chakwin told NBC's "TODAY."

For senior Kevin McGuire, however, his mission to attend prom with country darling Taylor Swift ended with an unexpected invitation to the Academy of Country Music Awards.

The 18-year-old student was battling cancer for the second time when his sister set up a Facebook page to reach out to the songstress. Due to a scheduling conflict, Swift had to decline McGuire's dance invitation, but instead asked him to join her at the ACM's as her date.

Unfortunately, McGuire was hospitalized prior to the awards show and was not able to attend.

Her father's name is Tim Ebert ... her mother's name is Nancy Ebert .. but her name is Danae RODRIGUEZ? How can that be? I don't get it ...

Maybe he's her step-father, that's how that can be.

What a wonderful young lady...as lovely on the inside as she is on the outside...a very rare find nowadays. I hope they both had a wonderful time and made memories they will have forever.

For once a nice story...bless their family.

What a nice father daughter story. Most teens are ashamed to be seen with parents. Nice to see respect for a change, and for the rest of you trashy minded people that just can't seem to see something good about this-you are missing out. She might be a doctor or nurse someday, and cares about someone besides herself. Good story.

It's fine that they're close but a high school prom is an inappropriate place to escort your father to. I think he missed an opportunity to teach his daughter about appropriate times and places to display affection between fathers and daughters.

A prom doesn't have to be about a boy/girl date and doesn't have to be an affectionate date. Many go with friends and her father must also be a good friend to her. I remember as a kid going to a father-daughter dance and luncheon.

I disagree. Prom is a formal dance, that's all. Granted, MOST people go with their significant other, but many do NOT!
