Beth M. Howard Shares How Pie Helped Her Heal After Losing Her Husband (VIDEO)

WATCH: How Pie Helped This Woman Heal After Losing Her Husband

After Beth M. Howard's husband, Marcus, died unexpectedly from a ruptured aorta in 2009, she was sure she would never be happy again.

That was, until she started baking pies. "As it turns out, pie became this thing that helped me heal," Howard said in an interview with AOL.

Howard first began her pie-focused blog -- aptly titled The World Needs More Pie -- two years before her husband's death. Shortly after he died, she began writing about her grief, which, she says, helped her immensely.

Then, Howard embarked on a "pie tour" journey in the couple's RV. The blogger and journalist drove all over the United States, interviewing pie bakers and going to fruit orchards.

"I found that pie was this amazing connecting force between people," said Howard, who has authored a book entitled Making Piece: A Memoir of Love, Loss and Pie.
